Siperb Runs One AI Agent Across Phone Calls, WhatsApp, Telegram and Email
London, UK. Siperb, the WebRTC-to-SIP softphone platform, has detailed how it connects a real-time AI voice agent to ordinary SIP phone calls, and how the same agent serves customers on WhatsApp, Telegram and email as one continuous conversation.Founder Conrad De Wet demonstrated the system at this year's OpenSIPS Summit. Calls to the agent run with end-to-end latency of around 150 milliseconds on a route through the UK to OpenAI's infrastructure. According to De Wet, most of that delay is network transit rather than processing.
How a call reaches the agent
Siperb uses OpenAI's SIP endpoint, which accepts calls dialled straight from SIP infrastructure into a configured OpenAI project. Incoming calls, including WhatsApp calls, terminate on Siperb's session border controller and pass through a small Asterisk array before reaching OpenAI. The Asterisk layer provides back-to-back user agent functions needed for call transfers and other mid-call operations.
Orchestration runs through a webhook on AWS Lambda that posts to a Node.js controller. The controller answers the call through OpenAI's REST API, without which the call would ring indefinitely, and sends the agent its opening instruction over a separate WebSocket connection.
What the agent can do
During the demonstration the agent recognised the caller, confirmed his authentication status and queried the Siperb platform live: listing his devices, reporting which were registered and online, including an iPhone and the desktop client, and listing his connections. It kept track of earlier turns in the call and handled interruptions using semantic turn detection.
One agent, not a voice bot
Siperb built a single agent and made voice one of several channels. The agent is defined in OpenAI's platform and Agent Builder, with OpenAI's chat SDK handling conversation. Siperb maps each user ID to a separate conversation ID for each channel, all tied to the same customer. A caller can therefore pick up a conversation that started on Telegram, WhatsApp or email, and vice versa.
What this means for smaller teams
Building a voice agent of this kind once required separate speech, language-understanding, dialogue and platform teams. The speech and dialogue layers are now available as API services, leaving the SIP routing, orchestration, tool access and identity mapping as the work a company must do itself. De Wet's view is that the main open question is governance: which tools an agent may call, what it may change and which decisions it is trusted with.

Why Your Phone Doesn't Actually "Answer" a VoIP Call the Moment You Swipe - and …
By Justin Downes, Independent Technology Writer covering enterprise communications and AI
There's a quiet, awkward truth about mobile SIP calling that most vendors avoid saying out loud: the standard push-notification flow doesn't reliably work. At the OpenSIPS Summit in Bucharest, Conrad De Wet of Siperb was unusually direct about it. "Mobile push notifications don't work," he told the audience - before softening the claim. It was a bold statement, he acknowledged.…
Siperb's Go-Based Media Bridge Lets WebRTC Softphones Work With an On-Premises P …
Siperb, a WebRTC-to-SIP softphone platform, has detailed a locally-run media bridge that allows its desktop client to connect to a customer's on-premises PBX without exposing that PBX to the public internet or routing calls through cloud infrastructure. The feature was described by founder Conrad De Wet at the OpenSIPS Summit in Bucharest.
The problem the bridge solves is a familiar one for vendors of cloud-based real-time communications software: some customers run…
