National Football League Veteran Alvis Whitted has teamed up with The NeoSoul Trading Company to host a story time for children in Durham?s historic Northgate Mall.

DURHAM, NC - “Changing the community begins with our youth,” were the words NeoSoul Trading Company President Leroy Brown used to kick off the Storytime Saturdays series, held in Durham’s historic Northgate Mall.

National Football League Veteran Alvis Whitted captured the attention of the children in attendance for over an hour as he shared personal stories on the importance of saving, the theme for the reading.

J.J. Chambers, who attended with his son Justin, felt Storytime Saturdays went above and beyond traditional book readings. “As a big child myself, both my son and I thoroughly enjoyed the chosen book, "Where Is My Money.” In today's tough economic condition, it's never too early to educate our youth on the importance of money management. Alvis did a great job getting the children involved as he related the books back to real life and his own life lessons.”

Chambers went on to talk about the impact of Storytime Saturdays on his community. “Readings like this add to the wholesome, family nurturing experience Durham has to offer. All too often we only hear about violence and corruption in our modern world. I believe that more events like this will encourage families in the Durham community to take part in all the great things the Bull City has to offer.”

Storytime Saturdays take place outside Walden Books, located in Durham’s historic Northgate Mall. The next reading will be held Saturday, June 14, at 11:00 a.m. Storytime Saturdays are sponsored by The NeoSoul Trading Company with support from Waldenbooks, Exhibit Resources, and DocuSource of North Carolina.
