SchengenSure Launches Free Tool to Check Schengen Visa Insurance Certificates Before Appointments

Free online checker helps applicants review names, travel dates, territorial validity, medical coverage and repatriation information before submitting insurance evidence

Frankfurt, Germany, 18 October 2026 - SchengenSure has launched a free online Schengen visa insurance certificate checker designed to help applicants review important details on their travel medical insurance documents before a visa appointment. The tool guides travellers through checks covering the insured person's name, policy dates, territorial validity, medical coverage amount, emergency treatment and repatriation wording. It is intended as a practical document-review aid rather than a guarantee of visa approval or insurance acceptance. Applicants remain responsible for checking the current requirements of the competent embassy, consulate or authorised visa application centre before submitting their documents. [https://schengensure.com/schengensure-travel-insurance-certificate-checker/]

Travel medical insurance is an important supporting-document requirement for applicants for uniform Schengen visas, subject to the rules and exemptions in the EU Visa Code. Article 15 provides that adequate and valid travel medical insurance must cover specified expenses connected with medical repatriation, urgent medical attention, emergency hospital treatment or death. The insurance must generally be valid throughout the territory of the relevant Member States for the intended stay or transit and provide minimum coverage of EUR 30,000. SchengenSure developed the checker to help applicants compare these requirements with information shown on their own certificate while recognising that local documentary instructions and insurer-verification practices may differ between application jurisdictions.

The checker focuses on document-consistency issues that applicants can identify before attending an appointment. These can include a misspelled traveller name, insurance dates that do not cover the complete intended trip, unclear territorial wording, a medical limit below the required minimum, or certificate wording that does not clearly evidence emergency medical treatment and repatriation cover. Where important information is missing or unclear, SchengenSure advises applicants not to alter an insurer-issued certificate themselves. Instead, they should ask the insurer whether an updated certificate, policy schedule or written confirmation is available and then compare the documentation with the current official checklist for the authority handling the visa application. SchengenSure states that the certificate checker is intended to support preparation rather than replace the assessment carried out by a consulate or the contractual terms of an insurance policy. A certificate may contain the main information needed for documentary review while the underlying policy still contains exclusions, deductibles or other conditions that a traveller should understand. Some application jurisdictions may also issue additional instructions concerning recognised insurers or the evidence applicants should submit. Travellers should therefore review both the certificate and relevant policy wording and verify the latest official requirements before their appointment. SchengenSure also provides a country-focused guide explaining the common Schengen insurance standard and areas where documentary procedures can differ.
