Christine Lawson Announces Two New Books to Empower Kids

Two new children's stories use farm animals to explore disability, courage, friendship, jealousy, and making good choices.

Washington DC, District of Columbia, United States, 14th Sep 2026 - Author Christine Lawson introduces readers to a new farmyard adventure with Tom Turkey Learns the Importance of Friends, a children's book that explores friendship, jealousy, pride, and the choices we make when we feel left out. The book is now available on Amazon and brings young readers into a barnyard filled with colorful animals, changing friendships, and an important lesson.

Tom Turkey enjoys being noticed. He loves displaying his beautiful feathers and showing the hen turkeys his best dance moves. For Tom, being admired feels important. That changes when Ted Turkey arrives and quickly becomes part of the barnyard.

Instead of seeing Ted as a possible friend, Tom sees him as competition. His jealousy begins to affect his behavior and leads him into a situation that could have serious consequences.
When Jealousy Gets in the Way
Tom's problem begins with a feeling many children may recognize. He does not like the idea of sharing attention with someone new.

As Ted becomes more involved with the other animals, Tom becomes increasingly unhappy. His desire to remain the center of attention makes it difficult for him to appreciate what a new friendship could bring.

The situation becomes more serious as Tom's jealousy influences his decisions. His actions eventually lead him toward danger, giving him a reason to look at his choices in a new way.

Bronwyn the Livestock Guardian Dog is there to offer guidance. Her calm and thoughtful nature helps Tom understand that friendship should not be treated like a contest.

Through Tom's experience, young readers can see that jealousy may create problems, while trust, kindness, and acceptance can help build stronger relationships.
Bronwyn Is a Real Dog With Her Own Story
Bronwyn is an important part of Christine Lawson's farm stories, but she is more than a character created for children.

Bronwyn is a real Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dog. She was born with a physical disability that affects one of her paws. The paw is shaped like a lobster claw, which made movement more difficult for her when she was young.

While other puppies could run and play with fewer limitations, Bronwyn had to find her own way to move and develop. Her physical challenge did not prevent her from learning the skills needed to protect animals on the farm.

Bronwyn's real-life experience became the basis for Christine's earlier book, Bronwyn the Livestock Guardian Dog. Her journey also brings an added layer to Tom Turkey Learns the Importance of Friends, where she appears as an animal who can offer Tom guidance.

Bronwyn shows that ability is not always easy to see from the outside. Her life demonstrates how patience, courage, and determination can help an individual overcome physical challenges.
A Lesson Children Can Take With Them
At the heart of this children's book is a lesson about the value of friendship.

Children can sometimes feel jealous when someone new receives attention or becomes popular. Tom's story gives young readers a safe and simple way to think about those emotions.

The book encourages children to consider questions such as: What happens when jealousy controls our actions? How can we welcome someone new? Why is friendship more meaningful than being the most popular person in the group?

Rather than simply telling children what they should do, the story allows them to watch Tom make choices and experience the results.

The barnyard setting also gives the lesson a fun backdrop. Young animal lovers can enjoy the personalities of the turkeys and other farm characters while following Tom's changing attitude.
A Story Inspired by Real Farm Life
Christine Lawson's connection to farm animals is personal. She returned to farming her family's land after searching for healthy food options for her children.

Christine is a practicing attorney and a mother of two adult children on the autism spectrum. She raised her children as a single mother and has personal experience with the challenges that can come with being different.

Her family's dietary needs led her to create a specialty food company offering foods she developed for her children. Her journey eventually brought her back to the family farm, where animals became an important part of her life.

Bronwyn arrived as a guardian for Christine's animals. Getting to know the dog and seeing her handle her physical disability inspired Christine to tell Bronwyn's story.

That experience opened the door to writing books that use farm animals to explore lessons that matter to children.
Why This Book Stands Out
This children's book combines an entertaining animal story with a lesson that children can understand and discuss.

Tom is not presented as someone who always makes the right decision. His jealousy causes trouble, but it also gives him an opportunity to learn. His experience shows young readers that making a mistake does not have to be the end of the story. What matters is being willing to recognize the problem and make a better choice.

The connection to Bronwyn also gives the book a meaningful link to a real animal. Her presence reminds readers that every creature has its own challenges, abilities, and strengths.

Together, the characters create a story about looking beyond competition and learning to value the people and friends around us.
