French Is the Surprise Hit: More Than 3,500 Subscribers Are Learning with Sven Frank's New Language-Learning Podcast

What began with Croatian for his own vacation has evolved into a multilingual podcast series: Polyglot language coach Sven Frank now publishes his learning methods for English, French, Spanish, and Italian. Demand for French is particularly high.

Selzen, August 2026. Sven Frank and his wife Andrea had actually only intended to learn Croatian for their vacation. Today, thousands of people listen to his language-learning podcasts. The "Learn French Podcast," released before summer break, has had the strongest start to date: after just twelve episodes, the series already has more than 3,500 subscribers.

For Frank, this response is a sign that French has by no means lost its importance among German language learners. On the contrary: among the language-learning podcasts he has released so far, the French series is currently becoming the most popular format.

The episodes are aimed primarily at people who don't want to learn a language exclusively through vocabulary lists and grammar rules. The focus is on vocabulary for everyday use, typical conversational situations, and active speaking.

"You don't learn a language by knowing as much as possible about it. What matters is that you understand it, speak it, and can use it at the right moment," says Sven Frank. "That's exactly what the podcasts are designed to do."

From a Personal Croatian Project to a Multilingual Podcast Series

The idea for the series came about rather by chance. Sven Frank and his wife Andrea wanted to prepare for a vacation in Croatia and learn Croatian together. Frank produced his own learning units for this purpose and made them available as a podcast so that both of them could access them anytime, whether on the go or in everyday life.

What was initially intended solely for their own use quickly attracted other listeners. After just a few weeks, around 1,000 people had subscribed to the Croatian podcast and were learning alongside the couple.

The personal learning project then evolved into a larger concept. Frank adapted the format to other languages and developed podcasts for English, French, Spanish, and Italian.

A unique feature: The series largely follow the same structure in terms of content. For example, someone who has learned a specific everyday situation in French can then tackle the same topic in Spanish or Italian. This makes the podcasts ideal for people who are learning multiple foreign languages at the same time or want to brush up on their existing language skills.

French Podcast Exceeds Expectations

Frank was surprised that French, of all languages, is in such high demand. With more than 3,500 subscribers after the first twelve episodes, the podcast--which launched before summer break--has become the series' most successful new format to date.

The individual episodes build systematically on one another. Beginners start with greetings, introductions, and simple everyday phrases. This is followed by typical situations that travelers and language learners actually need--such as in a caf?, at a restaurant, while shopping, at a hotel, or during conversations on the go.

New episodes are released weekly. Members of the Speedlearning Club can also access fully produced episodes right away, without having to wait for the weekly release.

Next Up: Finnish

The story behind the podcast series continues. Frank is currently working on a podcast for learning Finnish--once again inspired by a personal experience.

Sven and Andrea are planning a trip to Finland this fall and would like to visit Santa Claus while they're there. Just as before their trip to Croatia, they don't want their preparation to be limited to a few tourist phrases. The two want to be able to communicate in Finnish while they're there.

That's why their personal learning project is currently evolving into the next publicly available podcast series.
