Dutch Browser Extension Compares Internet Subscriptions on the Provider's Own Site

Groningen, the Netherlands - Dutch comparison platform Dualband has released Dualband Voordeelcheck, a free Chrome extension that shows what an internet and TV subscription would cost at competing providers while the visitor is still putting the package together on the provider's own website. Until now, comparing Dutch offers meant leaving that site and entering the same details again on a separate comparison platform. The extension removes that step. It follows along as a visitor assembles a subscription, and once the package is complete it calculates what the same combination of internet speed, television and telephony costs at the eight largest Dutch providers, measured over the contract term rather than per month. Dutch subscriptions are commonly sold on twelve-month and twenty-four-month contracts, and the calculation follows whichever term applies to the package on screen.

THE MONTHLY PRICE SAYS VERY LITTLE

The monthly rate advertised on a provider's website rarely matches what a household ends up paying. Dutch providers compete mainly through introductory discounts, waived installation fees and welcome gifts, so two offers with almost the same monthly rate can end up hundreds of euros apart by the end of the contract. Take two twenty-four-month subscriptions. One is advertised at 45 euro per month with the first six months at half price. The other is 47 euro per month and comes with a welcome gift worth 400 euro. The second is the cheaper of the two, but that only becomes clear once the promotional months, the standard months, the connection fees and the net value of the gift are added up. Dualband Voordeelcheck makes that calculation for every supported provider at once, and it rounds in its own disadvantage, taking benefits down and costs up, so the figures it shows are not flattering the result.

NO FORMS TO FILL IN

The extension asks nothing of the user. It reads the package being configured on the page and updates the comparison as options are selected or changed, so there is no form to complete and no personal details to hand over. By default it shows a small badge in the corner of the screen, and the comparison card only appears when the user clicks it. On any given site the badge can be dismissed for the rest of the browsing session, and on websites other than the supported providers the extension stays inactive altogether.

WHAT THE EXTENSION COLLECTS

Dualband Voordeelcheck carries no advertising, no trackers and no cookies. It does not record which pages a user visits, and no web addresses are transmitted. The only data sent to Dualband's server is eleven fields describing the package being configured, which is what the comparison is built from. Each of those fields is listed in the privacy statement at https://www.dualband.nl/tools/voordeelcheck/ and nothing is sold or passed on to third parties. The extension works with a free API key, which keeps the server protected against abuse. The request page opens by itself after installation, where users fill in an email address, click the confirmation link and receive their key, a process that takes about two minutes.

AVAILABILITY

Dualband Voordeelcheck is available now in the Chrome Web Store at https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/dualband-voordeelcheck/gdlfbackmfggbnjfmadeeblbjnalemed and is currently offered in Dutch for the Dutch market only. Dualband intends to broaden provider coverage and add functionality in the Netherlands first, and will look at neighbouring countries after that.
