Eurovision 2027 in Burgas, Bulgaria: Why Skyrocketing Accommodation Prices Are No Reason to Panic
Ever since it was announced that Burgas would host the Eurovision Song Contest in the spring of 2027, prices in the five-figure range have briefly appeared on booking platforms such as Booking.com and Airbnb for accommodations in the city. The real estate agency Imot Immo, which specializes in Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, explains the phenomenon: It's a familiar pattern that has been regularly observed in previous host cities of the contest--and is not a sign of permanently skyrocketing prices.Algorithms, Not Greed
According to imot.immo, the main driver is not the behavior of individual landlords, but rather the dynamic pricing of the booking platforms themselves. As soon as thousands of users across Europe simultaneously search for the same travel dates for 2027, the algorithms interpret this as massive excess demand amid seemingly limited availability and raise the displayed prices in real time, sometimes every minute. The displayed amounts of 10,000 to 20,000 euros are not actual bookings, but rather an algorithmic signal of scarcity.
There is also a human factor at play: In light of the international media frenzy, many property owners are deliberately setting inflated prices--not so much in anticipation of a buyer, but as a safeguard against hasty bookings while the market has not yet stabilized.
Sufficient Capacity Available
According to imot.immo, there are approximately 166,000 beds available in registered accommodations within a radius of about 20 kilometers of Burgas--ranging from international hotel chains to guesthouses to thousands of vacation rentals, including Sunny Beach, Nessebar, and Sveti Vlas. This capacity significantly exceeds the actual demand for an event like the Eurovision Song Contest.
A Familiar Pattern: Liverpool, Malmoe, Basel
Comparable price spikes were already observed in previous host cities: In Liverpool (2023), prices rose at times by over 1,000 percent; in Malmoe (2024) and Basel (2025), an almost identical pattern repeated itself. In all three cases, prices corrected by 40 to 60 percent within a few weeks as soon as the regular hotel inventory became available in the booking systems.
Recommendation for Owners and Investors
"A short-term price spike should not be confused with a new price level," according to imot.immo. The agency advises property owners and investors on the Black Sea coast to keep a cool head and instead focus on the long-term international visibility that an event like the Eurovision Song Contest brings to the region.
