Hamburg, August 2026. Writing books with artificial intelligence in just a few hours? For book coach, ghostwriter, and publisher Mirjam Saeger, this discussion misses the point of the technology's true potential. With Buchkompass, she has developed a digital system that isn't designed to produce as much text as possible as quickly as possible. Instead, Saeger has channeled her experience from more than 100 book projects she's mentored into an AI-powered sparring partner that guides authors from the initial book idea through strategy and writing all the way to visibility.

"When it comes to using AI for books, we talk a lot about what prompts authors need to use so that the AI writes better texts. I find another question much more exciting: How do we teach the AI to ask authors the right questions?" says Saeger.

This is exactly where Buchkompass comes in.

From her many years of working with authors, Saeger is familiar with the typical hurdles in nonfiction projects: too many ideas instead of too few, an unclear core message, a lack of structure, or stories that are told but don't achieve the necessary depth.

"Naturally, an author doesn't always see what they're missing. That's exactly why a good sparring partner is so valuable," explains Saeger. "Sometimes what's needed isn't the next draft, but the question: What are you really trying to say here?"

The Book Compass is therefore not intended to take over the author's role, but to strengthen it. It asks probing questions, pushes for greater specificity, supports strategic decisions, and guides the development and writing process.

Saeger's guiding principle:

"AI should ensure that more of the author is reflected in the book--not less."

Book Development Independent of Time and Place

The idea for the Buchkompass arose from a practical limitation of traditional consulting: Personal coaching is always tied to the coach's availability.

Saeger therefore wanted to make her approach--developed over many years--scalable. To this end, her methodology, typical questions, and experiences from more than 100 book projects were systematically incorporated into the Buchkompass.

The system consists of several interrelated sections: ASSESSMENT, START, STRATEGY, WRITING, and VISIBILITY.

ASSESSMENT is available free of charge and initially helps interested users determine whether the right time has already come to write their own book. The subsequent modules then guide the concrete development of the book project.

Just how personal this form of digital guidance can feel became apparent as early as the beta phase. One test user spontaneously referred to her digital sparring partner as "my Miri"--Saeger's nickname from her teenage years.

"At that moment, I knew: This is exactly what the Book Compass should be. Not an anonymous text generator, but a sparring partner that reflects my approach to books," says Saeger.

From Concept to Potential Publication

The Book Compass doesn't stop at the manuscript. In addition to development and writing, the system also focuses on the book's future visibility.

For selected book projects, there's also the option of publication through Saeger's expert publishing house, Expertition. This allows her to combine digital book development, personal publishing expertise, and professional publication into a seamless journey from idea to finished book.

"For me, the next stage of development isn't necessarily about people getting better and better at operating machines. It gets exciting when experts start using AI to make their experience and way of thinking accessible to many more people."

The Book Compass is Saeger's response to this challenge for the book industry.
