Esports World Cup 2026: The Complete Guide to Gaming's Biggest Tournament
The Esports World Cup 2026 is officially underway, and this year's edition is unlike any before it. Running from 6 July to 23 August 2026, the third edition of the Esports World Cup (EWC) has moved from its traditional home in Riyadh to Paris, France - the first time the tournament has ever been held outside Saudi Arabia. With a record-breaking US$75 million prize pool, more than 2,000 players, over 200 clubs from 100+ countries, and 25 tournaments across 24 game titles, the Esports World Cup remains the largest professional esports event on the planet. Here's everything you need to know.
What Is the Esports World Cup?
The Esports World Cup is an annual, multi-title esports festival organised by the Esports Foundation. Rather than crowning a champion in a single game, the EWC brings together the world's biggest competitive titles from Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2 to Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Street Fighter 6 under one seven-week umbrella event.
The tournament grew out of Gamers8 and the earlier Gamers Without Borders charity series, before being formally launched as the Esports World Cup in 2024. In just three editions, it has become the benchmark for scale in competitive gaming, with the 2025 edition reportedly reaching around 750 million online viewers.
What makes the EWC unique is the Club Championship, a cross-game leaderboard where esports organisations ("clubs") earn points based on their placements across every eligible tournament. The most consistent club across the entire event lifts the overall trophy, on top of anything their rosters win in individual games.
Why Is EWC 2026 in Paris Instead of Riyadh?
The 2026 edition was originally scheduled for Riyadh, as in previous years. However, on 20 May 2026, the Esports Foundation confirmed the event would relocate to Paris, citing the regional situation in the Middle East following an extended evaluation process.
The Foundation has framed the move as an acceleration of its long-term vision to rotate the event through major global cities, and has stated its intention to return to Riyadh in 2027. Paris is no stranger to elite esports, the city previously hosted the 2019 League of Legends World Championship Final, the 2023 BLAST.tv Paris Major, and the 2025 VALORANT Champions.
For fans, the practical impact is significant: EWC 2026 is more accessible than ever for European audiences, with all 25 competitions running at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.
The US$75 Million Prize Pool Explained
The Esports World Cup 2026 features the largest prize pool in esports history, up from US$70 million+ in 2025. Broadly, the money is split across three layers:
1. Club Championship - US$30 million. Distributed among the top 24 clubs on the cross-game leaderboard, with roughly US$7 million reserved for the overall champion club.
2. Game Championships. Each of the 25 individual tournaments carries its own prize pool, distributed to teams and players based on final placement.
3. Awards and qualifiers. Additional funds cover MVP awards, player honours, and publisher-run qualifying events held ahead of the main event.
This structure rewards both specialist teams that dominate a single title and multi-game organisations that field competitive rosters across many games.
What's New in the 2026 Lineup?
The EWC 2026 lineup features 24 games - 21 returning titles plus notable changes:
● Fortnite returns, this time played in the Reload mode as the Fortnite Reload Elite Series Championship, under a multi-year deal with Epic Games.
● Trackmania (2020) debuts, marking the racing title's first appearance at the EWC.
● StarCraft II and Rennsport are out, meaning 2026 is the first edition with no real-time strategy game in the lineup.
● Annualised titles roll forward: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and EA Sports FC 26 replace their previous versions.
Headline titles like Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, League of Legends, VALORANT, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, PUBG Mobile, Honor of Kings, Tekken 8, and Street Fighter 6 all return, keeping the event relevant to PC, console, mobile, and fighting game communities alike, including the huge MOBA and mobile esports fanbases across Southeast Asia.
How the Club Championship Works in 2026
The Club Championship is the connective tissue of the Esports World Cup. In 2026:
● Clubs earn Club Points based on placements in each eligible competition.
● To appear on the leaderboard, a club must finish top-8 in at least two competitions.
● To be eligible for 1st place overall, a club must win at least one eligible tournament, consistency alone isn't enough without a title.
Team Falcons won the inaugural Club Championship in 2024 and defended it in 2025, making them the organisation to beat once again. Global powerhouses like Team Liquid, Team Vitality, FaZe Clan, Gen.G, and Team Spirit are all in the hunt across multiple titles.
How to Watch the Esports World Cup 2026
Every tournament is streamed live on the official Esports World Cup channels, with an expanded co-streaming and creator program bringing coverage in dozens of languages. For fans in Malaysia and Singapore, most broadcast windows for European daytime matches fall in the local evening and night hours, convenient for following marquee titles like MLBB, Dota 2, and CS2.
