About Sahar Education:
In the face of ongoing adversity, Sahar Education remains committed to expanding educational opportunities for women and girls in Afghanistan. At a time when millions of girls continue to face barriers to secondary and higher education, Sahar works alongside grassroots partners to create safe learning opportunities that foster knowledge, confidence, independence, and hope. Through education, women and girls are empowered not only to dream of brighter futures, but to build them.
Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, and founded in 2001, Sahar Education has partnered with local communities to build, repair, and equip 39 schools, helping create educational opportunities for more than 250,000 students across Afghanistan. Working alongside local and international partners, Sahar continues to invest in sustainable education and career-based initiatives that strengthen individuals, families, and future generations.
Today, Afghanistan remains the only country in the world where girls are prohibited from receiving formal education beyond primary school. Millions of girls have been denied the opportunity to continue their education, placing future generations of teachers, healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders at risk. Yet even in the face of these challenges, Afghan women and girls continue to demonstrate extraordinary resilience, determination, and hope.
At Sahar Education, we believe that education is more than access to a classroom - it is the foundation for opportunity, autonomy, and lasting change. Every student who learns, every educator who teaches, and every community that invests in education helps build a future where women and girls have the knowledge, confidence, and freedom to shape their own lives.
Together, we can continue creating opportunities for women and girls to learn, lead, and shape brighter futures.
