National Symposium for World Envirnment Day 2026 by KVIC KNHPI, Banasthali and Manipal University Jaipur

Marking World Environment Day 2026, a One-Day Online National Symposium on "Environmental Sustainability and Circular Economy for a Greener Future"was jointly organized by the Khadi& Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute (KNHPI), Jaipur, Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ), and Banasthali Vidyapith. The event was registered with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and brought together experts, academicians, researchers, and students to discuss innovative approaches for environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The symposium commenced with a welcome address by Dr.Saakshy (KNHPI), followed by an introductory address about the symposium by Dr. Manisha Sharma (MUJ) . Eminent experts delivered keynote addresses highlighting various dimensions of sustainability and circular economy. Speakers included Shri Virendra Singh, Head-Environment & Ecology and Scientist E at the Bureau of Indian Standards briefly explained the increasing impact and role of BIS at global platform as per intiatives of Honorable Prime Minister of India and its impact on conservation of environment; Dr. R. K. Jain, UNIDO Expert and former Director of KNHPI& CPPRI shared valuable perspectives of UNIDO on sustainable industrial development; Shri P. K. Satpathy, Director, HMPFI explained the significance of rural industries supported by KVIC in protection of environment.Dr. Rahul Mishra, Director, KVIC and KNHPI informed the role and commitment of KVIC for greener and sustainable development. He also informed the importance of handmade paper in preserving the environment.

The expert talk was delivered by Dr Kailash Singh, MNIT; Dr AbhijeetOjha, Dr AbhayDinker , Dr Nadana RVJ, Mr EkanshSaxena from ManipalUniveristy Jaipur, Dr B R Natarajan from BanasthaliVidyapith, Dr Atul Kumar, Dr Saakshy& Ms DiptiAdichwalfrom Kumrappa National Handmade Paper Institute Jaipur, Ms Jasmine & Mr SaurabhBassi from IIT Roorkee. The technical sessions showcased cutting-edge research and practical solutions addressing contemporary environmental challenges. Topics ranged from emerging water technologies, pollution control through advanced carbon-based materials, and sustainable handmade paper production to thermal energy storage systems and waste utilization in the pulp and paper industry. Experts from MNIT Jaipur, Manipal University Jaipur, KNHPI, BanasthaliVidyapith, and IIT Roorkee shared valuable insights on sustainable technologies and resource-efficient practices.

Special emphasis was placed on circular economy principles through presentations on bioplastics, sustainable packaging materials derived from waste biomass and agricultural residues, wastewater treatment technologies, and the role of the handmade paper industry as a model of environmental sustainability. Young researchers also contributed innovative ideas on biodegradable seedling paper bags and bio-based moldedfibre packaging solutions. The participants included Mr DeveshSinghal, Chandpur Paper Industries, Mugle Handmade Paper, Doctors, Engineers, Scientists, government officials, teachers, artisans, KVIC retired officials, NGO's, students and research scholars.

The symposium concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr.Saakshy, who acknowledged the contributions of all speakers, participants, and organizing institutions. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Manisha Sharma (MUJ), Dr. B. R. Natarajan (BanasthaliVidyapith), and Dr.Saakshy (KNHPI) under leadership of Dr Rahul Mishra, Director KNHPI, Shri P K Satpathy, Director HMPFI, KVIC and Dr N N Sharma, President Manipal University, Jaipur.The event successfully fostered knowledge exchange and reinforced the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing environmental sustainability and building a greener future. The program was anchored by Ms Dipti Adichwal& Mr Ekansh Saxena.
