What is Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common neurological disorder in young adults and generally appears between the ages of 20 and 40 years. The disease damages the myelin sheath of the central nervous system (CNS), leading to the formation of scarred plaques visible on MRI scans. These lesions contribute to symptoms including vision problems, numbness, fatigue, spasticity, cognitive impairment, and bladder or bowel dysfunction.
Relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), the most common form of MS, is characterized by episodes of neurological flare-ups followed by periods of remission. Approximately 65% of patients with RRMS eventually progress to secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS), resulting in gradual disability progression. Risk factors associated with multiple sclerosis include environmental factors, obesity, genetics, autoimmune diseases, smoking, and infections. Diagnosis relies on clinical history, neurological examination, MRI findings, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis.

Emerging Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis Drug Profiles
SAR441344: Sanofi
SAR441344 (Frexalimab) is a CD40L monoclonal antibody being developed by Sanofi and ImmuNext for autoimmune disorders including Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis. The therapy blocks the CD40L-CD40 interaction responsible for triggering heightened T-cell immune responses associated with autoimmune diseases. The therapy is currently being evaluated in Phase III clinical development for Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis.
In December 2023, Sanofi initiated a Phase III trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of Frexalimab compared to teriflunomide in adult patients with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis. The study is anticipated to be completed by May 2027 with an estimated enrollment of 1600 participants.
Obexelimab: Zenas BioPharma
Obexelimab is a monoclonal antibody therapy being developed by Zenas BioPharma for Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis. The therapy is currently in Phase II clinical development and is administered subcutaneously.
In October 2025, Zenas BioPharma announced positive Phase II MoonStone trial results for obexelimab in Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis. The therapy demonstrated a statistically significant 95% relative reduction in the cumulative number of new gadolinium-enhancing T1 hyperintense lesions compared with placebo.

Recent Developments in the Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis Clinical Trial Landscape
• In October 2025, Zenas BioPharma announced positive Phase II MoonStone trial results of obexelimab in Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis, demonstrating a statistically significant reduction in new gadolinium-enhancing lesions.
• In June 2025, Immunic, Inc. announced completion of enrollment for both Phase III ENSURE trials evaluating vidofludimus calcium (IMU-838) in patients with Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis.
• In December 2023, Sanofi initiated a Phase III clinical trial evaluating Frexalimab (SAR441344) in patients with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis.
