The global market for AI rack power architecture is set to grow nearly sixfold over the next several years, according to new research from Mobility Foresights. The market, valued at USD 980 million in 2024, is projected to reach USD 5.46 billion by 2031, expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 27.4%.

The surge is being driven by a basic physics problem inside the data center: AI training and inference racks now routinely draw more than 100 kW - and in dense GPU configurations, 150 kW and beyond - far exceeding what conventional enterprise rack power designs were built to handle. As a result, operators are redesigning power delivery at the rack level rather than treating it as fixed infrastructure.

Power architecture has quietly become one of the hardest constraints on AI buildout. Once a rack crosses 100 kW, the old assumptions about cabling, conversion losses, and redundancy stop holding. The companies that solve rack-level power efficiently are effectively setting the ceiling on how fast AI infrastructure can scale.

The research identifies several shifts reshaping the category:

1. High-voltage DC distribution is moving into the rack to cut current and conduction losses, enabling smaller conductors and simpler layouts.
2. Power and liquid cooling are increasingly co-designed, since efficient power delivery reduces the thermal load cooling systems must remove.
3. Intelligent, rack-level power monitoring is being adopted for real-time load balancing and predictive maintenance.
4. Modular power shelves and PDUs let hyperscale operators scale capacity incrementally as workloads grow.

Hyperscale and AI-first data center operators are leading adoption, with the report noting that greenfield facilities are now frequently designed around high-density racks from the outset.

Leading vendors active in the space include Schneider Electric, Vertiv, ABB, Eaton, Siemens, Delta Electronics, and Huawei Digital Power.

The research also flags real headwinds: safety and arc-fault risk at high power levels, limited standardization across vendors, high upfront capital cost, and difficulty retrofitting legacy facilities.
