Rising acceptance driven by mercury-free and environmentally friendly UV source replacement: Conventional low-pressure mercury lamps have been widely used in industrial UV processing, but they face limitations related to mercury content, warm-up time, thermal impact, and energy efficiency. Excimer lamps are generally mercury-free, instantly switchable, low-temperature, wavelength-concentrated, and highly controllable, which aligns with equipment upgrade trends under stricter environmental and process requirements. Ushio's 172 nm excimer lamp materials highlight mercury-free operation, low heat generation, instantaneous ignition, and suitability for temperature-sensitive materials, supporting substitution opportunities in selected traditional UV treatment processes.

Restraint:

High equipment and process-integration costs: A flat excimer lamp is not a simple drop-in replacement for a conventional UV lamp. Industrial deployment usually requires matching power supplies, cooling systems, nitrogen or controlled atmospheres, irradiation-distance control, conveyor mechanisms, shielding, exhaust, and monitoring systems. For customers in displays, semiconductors, optical films, and precision coating, adoption requires process validation, yield evaluation, and production-line compatibility testing. In display, semiconductor, and high-end coating applications, insufficient uniformity or rapid output decay can cause inconsistent surface treatment, adhesion fluctuation, incomplete cleaning, or yield loss.
