ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH 2026 (8-10 May, Giessereihalle Puls 5) confirmed its status as a key platform for contemporary Swiss art, making distinct conceptual and atmospheric statements. The fair brought together 54 participants showing work from around 25 countries, combining a pronounced regional presence - approximately two-thirds of the exhibitors were from Switzerland - with contributions from Europe, North America, and Asia, as well as from countries such as Canada, the USA, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. This composition generated a dynamic tension between locally rooted positions and global voices.

Programmatically, the event presented a wide range of media. Paintings and traditional sculptures were exhibited alongside photography, objets d'art, digital works, and large-scale installations engaging with the space. This diversity of formats reflected current debates in contemporary art, such as questions of cultural rootedness and identity, the effects of globalisation and digitisation, and socially relevant topics, and enabled visitors to compare different aesthetic strategies and modes of narration directly.

Choosing the historic Puls 5 foundry hall as the venue significantly contributed to the impact of the fair. The industrial architecture and expansive halls provided flexible presentation spaces in which both established galleries and emerging artists were showcased effectively. In terms of curation, emphasis was placed on thematic breadth and balance: presentations ranged from intimate, narrative works to large-scale conceptual projects that took advantage of the hall's unique features.

A central concern of the fair was personal art mediation. The atmosphere was shaped by direct exchange between artists, gallerists, collectors, curators and the public. During solo presentations and discussion formats, artists were given the opportunity to explain their individual approach and the genesis of their works. This increased the authenticity of the presentations and enabled deeper insights. These encounters strengthened networks and fostered dialogue about understanding works, collecting practices, and current theoretical questions in art.

The combination of regional roots and international networking gave the fair a distinctive identity. ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH functions as both a showcase for local talent and an interface with global trends. For visitors, this resulted in a multi-layered experience, with discovery, professional exchange and aesthetic inspiration operating in equal measure. The event attracted a diverse audience, providing platforms for both emerging and established artists, and left the impression that the fair will continue to be a driving force for the Swiss art scene.

The 29th ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH contemporary art fair will take place from 21 to 23 May 2027 at Giessereihalle Puls 5 in Zurich, Switzerland.
