Ajinomatrix launches the free MP6 Converter - turning sensory spreadsheets into a portable, open sensory file format

Rebecq, Belgium - 27 May 2026 - Ajinomatrix today released the MP6 Converter V0.1, a free, browser-based tool that converts sensory-evaluation spreadsheets into .mp6 - a single-file, portable, open format for describing how a product is perceived across six dimensions: sight, smell, taste, touch, sound and intuition.
Sensory data in the food & beverage (F&B) and flavor & fragrance (F&F) industries is some of the richest data a company owns - and some of the most trapped. Every lab, panel and supplier formats its spreadsheets differently: wide panels, descriptor-by-product matrices, time-series, GC-MS compound tables. The result is data that is hard to compare, hard to share, and hard to reuse. The MP6 Converter addresses this by translating those varied spreadsheets into one consistent, self-contained file per product.

What the MP6 Converter does
• Reads what labs already produce. Upload one or many .xlsx, .xls, .ods or .csv files. The tool auto-detects the layout of each sheet - wide panel, QDA matrix, long, temporal - and lets the user override it.
• Maps the vocabulary. A built-in English/French sensory dictionary maps descriptors to MP6 dimensions; every mapping is editable, and descriptors that don't match a known term are preserved, never discarded.
• Aggregates and normalises. Each attribute is summarised (mean, standard deviation, count, min, max) and normalised to a common 0-10 scale.
• Exports portable files. It produces one .mp6 file per product - JSON inside, with a clear .mp6 extension - downloadable individually or as a ZIP. Each filename carries the usage grade and product name.

The converter runs entirely in the user's browser. Uploaded spreadsheets are processed in memory and are never sent to a server or stored - a deliberate privacy-by-design choice for labs handling confidential formulation data.
Optional AI-assisted mapping

For descriptors that the built-in dictionary cannot resolve automatically, the converter offers an optional AI-assisted mapping step that connects to Anthropic's Claude API. This feature is entirely opt-in: the user supplies their own Anthropic API key, which is held in memory for the request only and never stored. The converter is fully functional without it.

Who it is for
The MP6 Converter is aimed at sensory analysts, R&D and product-development teams, flavourists and perfumers, quality labs, and artisan producers - chocolatiers, bakers, brewers and chefs - who want a consistent, shareable way to record and exchange sensory profiles.

What comes next
V0.1 is the first piece of a planned ecosystem of companion applications built around the MP6 format. Several are in early development, including with collaborator Vincent Leurs:

• MP6 Viewer & Validator - open and structurally check .mp6 files.
• Sensory Radar Renderer - turn evaluations into multiple-axis radar charts.
• MP6 Timeline Player - replay a sensory sequence over time, from attack to aftertaste.
• Panel Data Comparator - compare two products or formulations side by side.
• Recipe Passport - a public, MP6-backed sensory page for a product or recipe.
These are roadmap items; availability and timing will be announced separately.

The MP6 Converter V0.1 is available now as a free web application. MP6 is an open format proposed by Ajinomatrix; V0.1 files are converter outputs and are not certified by any standards body.
