ezyZip Launches Browser Extension for One-Click Archive Extraction From Any Website

FREMANTLE, Western Australia (April 2026) - ezyZip, the browser-based archive manager developed by WebbyAppy, has released a new browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that allows users to extract archive files directly from any website without first downloading them to their device.

The extension, called ezyZip File Extractor, adds an "Extract with ezyZip" option to the right-click menu of any archive link encountered while browsing. Selecting it opens the file inside ezyZip.com, where it is decompressed locally in the user's browser. Files never touch the user's filesystem and never travel to a server.

Solving a Long-Standing Browser Limitation

Browser-based archive tools have not been able to fetch files hosted on third-party domains because of cross-origin (CORS) restrictions in the browser. As a result, users had to download an archive to their filesystem before opening it in a tool like ezyZip, often only to delete the original file moments later.

The new extension resolves this by injecting the necessary CORS response headers when ezyZip requests an archive from another domain. Only requests originating from ezyZip pages are affected. All other browsing activity is unchanged.

How It Works

1. Right-click any link to a supported archive file.
2. Choose "Extract with ezyZip" from the context menu.
3. The archive opens in a new ezyZip tab and is extracted locally in the browser.

Extraction happens entirely on the user's device using ezyZip's WebAssembly-based engine, which supports over 140 archive formats. These include common formats such as ZIP, RAR, 7Z and TAR, along with disc images, mobile app packages, virtual disk images, game and Minecraft archives, comic book archives, and a number of regional formats from Korea, Japan and elsewhere.

Privacy

The extension follows the same privacy model as the main ezyZip website. It does not collect personal data, does not read page content, and does not transmit files to any server. Its only network change is to add CORS response headers to archive downloads requested by ezyZip itself.
