SANTA CLARITA, California - April 28, 2026 - Camelot Moving & Storage (https://www.camelotmovers.com/) commemorates its 40th anniversary and deep roots in the growing Santa Clarita community.

Forty years ago, Billy and Carolyn Kornfeld founded Camelot Movers, a small local moving company (https://www.camelotmovers.com/local-moving-services) that they operated out of the garage of their home in the Santa Clarita area. Camelot Movers opened its doors just one year prior to the establishment of the City of Santa Clarita, a growing bedroom community at the northern end of Los Angeles. Known now as Camelot Moving & Storage, Inc., this homegrown company has not only observed but participated in the community's growth and development, transporting thousands of clients that include small businesses, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and multiple generations of families into and across this burgeoning city.

With its safe streets, planned communities, and notable schools, Santa Clarita draws those looking to start or grow their family. Likewise, it was with a view to his family that Billy Kornfeld began planting the seeds of what would become Camelot Moving & Storage. As an independent contractor for Bekins, a nationwide van line, Billy found it difficult to guarantee he would be home for important events. In fact he nearly missed the birth of his second child who came three weeks early. So with a focus on their family, Billy and his wife began putting money aside to start their own company, officially launching it in 1986. With such roots, it's no wonder Camelot took so well to Santa Clarita's soil.

While it was founded with a view to family, Camelot's growth has been shaped by the needs of its community. By 1989, Camelot had acquired an interstate license in order to offer a unique long-distance moving service (https://www.camelotmovers.com/long-distance-movers) to customers looking to move out of state. Having seen the pitfalls of van lines, Billy designed a long-distance service that did not involve subcontractors or middlemen to ensure that his high standards of service were met from beginning to end. Four decades later, Camelot's unique long-distance service remains unchanged, following the original blueprint.

In 1994, following the Northridge earthquake, many families in Santa Clarita suddenly found themselves in need of storage while they waited for their homes to be repaired. Once again, Billy and the Camelot team pivoted quickly to fully address their clients' needs. Not satisfied with outsourcing storage services to possibly subpar facilities, Billy hit the pavement in search of a clean, safe storage facility. Within weeks, Camelot Movers leased a climate-controlled warehouse and became Camelot Moving & Storage.

Billy considers it a personal obligation to put his family's company to work when it can help those in need by donating moving and storage services. A longtime recipient of such services is the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley. Other nonprofit organizations that benefit from Camelot's pro bono services are the Bridge 2 Home homeless shelter, Santa Clarita Valley Education Foundation, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, SCV Senior Center, and Child & Family Center.

Over its 40 years, Camelot Moving & Storage has survived bursting housing bubbles, expensive compulsory fleet upgrades, competition with large nationwide companies, and a worldwide pandemic that upset both the housing and labor markets. Billy knows whom to thank for the company's success through its highs and lows: "Without question, the community. People here remember you. For Camelot's first 10 years, I hustled, scrambled to gain new customers. Every day felt like I was starting from scratch. Then suddenly things felt easier. It was the referrals and return customers. Santa Clarita is a tight-knit community. It supports its own. That has been key to our longevity. I'm very grateful."

With the hands of the original founders still firmly at the helm of the company, Camelot Moving & Storage will continue to successfully navigate the twists and turns of the moving and housing industry for years to come.
