Beautiful Santa Ynez Vineyard in the winter.

Beautiful Santa Ynez Vineyard in the winter.

Best Wineries in Santa Barbara Wine Country.

If you are going on a wine tour in Santa Barbara, you are in luck. Santa Barbara wine country is a very special place. The lifestyle, the nature and the wineries make this area truly spectacular and unique. Wine country (Santa Ynez area) is about 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara. This is the majority of grapes that end up getting turned into wine are farmed. There is a very small amount farmed in Ojai, on the southern end of the county.

Santa Ynez, Solvang, Buellton, and Los Olivos are tiny towns that are scattered in Santa Barbara wine country and account for most of the population that live in wine country here (about 10,000 per town (guesstimate)). Each town is only about a 5 minute drive from the next, and a big industry here is wine. Los Olivos in Particular, is about 4 blocks long in either direction, and made up mostly of wine tasting rooms, a couple of restaurants and boutique shops. You spend the day either drinking, eating, or shopping, its paradise for thousands of people every week. In Time, in Los Olivos seems to have come to a halt many many years ago. Los Olivos may be an addiction.

Everywhere you look in Santa Ynez, you see beauty. Mountains, flowers blooming in the spring, rivers, vineyards, rock formations, Old Spanish architecture, Danish history, food, and diversity. Santa Barbara also, has the Transverse Ranges, a group of mountain ranges that has east-west orientation. Those mountain ranges make the area un-like anywhere else. Its like having the Pacific Ocean using a 15 mile funnel to influence whether passing through Lompoc and dumping it in Santa Ynez all for the grapes to enjoy. Or not, the more stress on the grape the better. Plenty of sun, nature, wild life, and lots of open space. Figueroa Mountain, a towering mountain sticking up from the range it sits on, looks amazingly beautiful covered by the gold California poppies in the spring.

And then, there are the wineries.

Since the early 70s, when commercial wine production began in Santa Barbara, there have been many creative and well funded people in the area and have been building, and developing wineries. There are many beautiful estates with amazing chateaus that will make you feel like you are in an European castle in medieval ages, with all modern features and luxuries of course. There are luxurious barn houses, and simple yet very elegant adobes. All of these wineries have different wine makers and different styles of wines, really good wine.

So, which one is the best winery? It depends. When it comes to the wineries, just like the wine, everyone has a different palate. Some are better for a group of bachelorettes, some are better for a group of retirees, while some offer a better experience for a couple. Some wineries, take the time to teach and share with you their passion for wine, family and tradition, while others don't know the name of the person that started the winery, but they will serve you lots of very good, well priced wine. Some wineries have big beautiful tasting rooms with lots of roses, manicured lawns, beautiful trees, and will rent out the Villa for your wedding if you decide to tie the knot there, very beautiful.

My list of current best wineries changes all the time, its the wine, seasons, weather, people, terrain, among many other factors. Esfuerzo Wines, Happy Canyon Vineyards, Fess Parker winery and Roblar Winery.

Let us know the kind of experience you are looking for, and we will tell you which are the best wineries in Santa Barbara for you. We offers wine tours in Santa Ynez, Solvang and Los Olivos.

"Outstanding service, driver and wine tour. These guys really know what
they're doing and have a passion for great service! Booking, scheduling
was easy and the driver (Karry) was incredible. He kept us on schedule,
appearing just as we needed to leave for our next destination as our
group of friends enjoyed a Sideways wine/food tour. We highly recommend
