Simplifying the Online Classifieds Experience: The Story

The classifieds online were to simplify life. That was the promise. List something. Get a buyer. Done.

However, at some point in the process, it went awry.

Too many platforms. Too many logins. Excessive upgrade to premium pop-ups. And occasionally, as well, too many false enquiries that go nowhere. I have made attempts to use three various classified sites over the years, and to be honest, one of them was like an online ghost town. One of them seemed to have not been updated since 2012. The third one? Adequately good traffic, yet all helpful functions appeared behind a payment wall. Almost you could have sworn you heard your wallet sigh. The little but steady irritation, that frustration, is just what the idea behind Dealin was all about. Not a revolution. Not a great technological breakthrough.

The Issues that No One Discusses.

Classifieds are necessary to people and small businesses in Australia. They're not a luxury. They're survival tools.

● A Brisbane uni student who attempted to sell a secondhand laptop to pay the rent.

● You do not have to have a tutorial video to edit your ad.

Something about it is very quiet and strong to strip away needless steps. No dramatic redesign. No over-engineered filters. Just clarity. And there comes a time when minimalism can be tedious. However, when you are in a hurry to sell something, it is good to be boring. Boring is efficient.

Community First, Not Just Transactions.

This is the point that most tech platforms lose: the classifieds are community-driven.

They're local by nature.

A person is not merely searching for a product when he/she is looking to acquire a second-hand bike in Adelaide. They are seeking somebody around them. Someone they can meet. A person with the same slang, familiar with the same suburbs.

A platform that takes that into consideration, an integrated platform, which does not feel corporate, is a different experience. A quieter one. A steadier one.

And in an online world where scale and speed are the order of the day, stability is invigorating.

Looking Ahead: The Vision

The vision is not about the long-term growth of the largest Classifieds Site in Australia.

It is about being the most useful one.

● A location where people and SMEs do not feel overwhelmed.
● Where it is easy to post a listing.
● Where community communication is local and actual.
● Where expansion does not involve leaping along the digital islands.

Will it evolve? Of course.
Will features expand? Probably.
Will there be adjustments? Definitely.

However, the essence is to make the online classifieds experience as easy as possible so that individuals can concentrate on what they are actually attempting to accomplish "buy, sell, hire, grow."

And perhaps, perhaps, make it less of a task.

Because honestly? There should be no strategy meeting when it comes to selling a couch.

It should just work.
