Master Colin Wee to Lead Martial Arts Seminar in Aberdeen on 9 May 2026
Aberdeen will host an exceptional martial arts event on 9 May 2026, as international master instructor and award winning author Colin Wee delivers a special seminar titled "Martial Arts: Straight from the Barrel." The seminar will run from 10am to 2pm at the Aberdeen Altens Hotel and is presented in partnership with local instructor Roy Moore of ApproachTKD.With more than four decades of cross continental experience across Asia, the United States, and Australia, Colin Wee is known for his ability to extract functional meaning from traditional martial arts patterns. His teaching blends historical insight with modern combative application, revealing the mechanics, intent, and tactical logic that transform classical choreography into practical skill. Participants can expect a deep dive into how and why traditional techniques were designed, and how to adapt them under pressure.
The event is hosted by Roy Moore, a respected Aberdeen based instructor with extensive experience in Taekwon Do, Silat Fitrah, Judo, and practical self protection. Moore and Wee previously travelled together on Totally Taekwondo Magazine's Editor and Taekwon-do Instructor Stuart Anslow's 2018 Tul Tour to South Korea, and their shared commitment to meaningful, functional training forms the backbone of this seminar.
"Roy and I have been discussing this event for years," says Wee. "Aberdeen has a strong martial arts community, and this seminar is designed to give practitioners a clear, accessible pathway from form to function - the kind of training that makes traditional patterns come alive."
The seminar will explore:
• the structural mechanics behind traditional movements
• how to generate tactical advantage through timing, angles, and pressure
• the deeper intent encoded within classical patterns
• practical adaptations for modern self protection
This event is open to martial artists of all styles and experience levels who want to deepen their understanding of traditional forms and their real world application.
