Long Time Coming: Minnesota's Sesquicentennial
Recording Minnesota's history through scrolls of watercolor, and pen & ink by David Malcolm ScottThe year of statewide celebration of Minnesota's sesquicentennial includes a special exhibit at the Nina Bliese Gallery in the financial district of Minneapolis. David Malcolm Scott is creating a new body of work in recognition of the 150th birthday of Minnesota's statehood. The subjects of his art span from a detailed view along the Mississippi by the Tyrone Guthrie Theatre to the sensitive visual approach he gives the prairie lands once belonging to the Native Americans. This exquisite work is created with the fine touch of a talented watercolorist, a collage artist and the trained mind of an architect. The exhibit runs from Monday, May 5th to Friday, June 13th, 2008. The Opening Reception takes place on Thursday May 8th from 5 to 8 PM. The Artist's talk will be on Sunday May18th from 3 to 5PM.
David Malcolm Scott is originally from the North Carolina and studied in Michigan, Ohio, and Bejing, China before coming to the Midwest. David received a degree in Architecture form the University of Minnesota and a M.F.A. from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Mr. Scott served as a studio assistant for Siah Armajani (designer of Irene Hixon Whitney bridge at the Walker Art Center and many world famous sculptures). He has had a wide range of experiences which helped paved the way for him to pursue his passion of painting. He creates narrative scrolls of visual time lines as well as smaller site and time specific paintings. His works are treasures framed in boxes especially designed for them by the artist. Originals and limited editions prints will be available.
The artist will be speaking about his work on Sunday afternoon on May 18th from 3 to 5 PM in the Nina Bliese Gallery located on the ground floor of the 225 South 6th Street building in Minneapolis.
