By reducing IR absorption, it helps lower heat build-up and surface temperature in coatings, plastics, and inks exposed to sunlight (often marketed as "cool black" pigments).

The U.S. EPA notes cool roofs can reduce peak cooling demand in air-conditioned homes (reported range 11-27%).
