Sir Patrick Bijou, United Kingdom.

Veteran investment banker urges leaders and citizens to rethink economic responsibility, social stability, and the human impact of financial systems.
Sir Patrick Bijou, internationally recognised investment banker, fund manager, and authority on Private Placement Programmes, has been featured in a new in-depth Q&A exploring his 30-year career across global finance. In the interview, he shares personal experiences from Wall Street, insights from leading major banking institutions, and reflections on how financial systems can better support communities worldwide.

Sir Patrick is using the feature to raise awareness about a growing global challenge: the widening wealth gap and its impact on social stability.

"In the interview, I said that 'success is not defined by wealth but by contribution.' I stand firmly by that," Sir Patrick notes. "When nearly half of global wealth is concentrated in the hands of the top 1%, the world cannot expect long-term political or economic stability."

According to Oxfam, the richest 1% now own almost half of all global wealth, while the bottom 50% collectively hold just 2%. The World Bank reports that more than 700 million people still live in extreme poverty. These disparities, Sir Patrick argues, hinder peace, increase vulnerability, and weaken global resilience.

"We must narrow the gap between poverty and ultra-wealth," he stresses in the Q&A. "Capitalism can be used for social good if guided with intention."

He also highlights how financial instability can escalate humanitarian crises worldwide. Drawing from personal experience working around conflict zones in Africa, he adds: "Economic instability and political instability feed each other. When one breaks, the other follows."

Sir Patrick urges not only policymakers and business leaders but also everyday citizens to take part in meaningful change. "Leadership is not limited to executives. It starts with asking what we can do, who we can help, and how we use the resources we already have."

Suggested actions include:

*
Supporting transparent charities and local initiatives

*
Learning about global economic issues to become informed advocates

*
Making ethical decisions in daily life

*
Encouraging conversations about fair economic policies

*
Volunteering within one's own community

"These small steps matter," he says. "One never stops learning, but what matters most is what we do with what we learn."

Sir Patrick continues to support humanitarian projects around the world, including irrigation systems in Sierra Leone, housing for children in India, and medical initiatives in the UK. His work and message reflect a consistent belief: economic progress and human progress must move together.

Call to Action: Sir Patrick Bijou encourages individuals, institutions, and communities to reflect on how their choices can help create a more balanced and stable world. "Everyone has the power to make an impact," he says. "We must use that power wisely."

Compared to autumn and winter, spring and summer clothing is lighter, thinner, and more close-fitting, with longer and more extensive contact with the skin. This shift has led people to pay greater attention to the safety, comfort, and breathability of clothing materials. When garments almost become a "second skin," factors such as skin-friendliness,
