Cell Phone Recycling Giant Casts Solid Vote For The Environment

04-22-2008 11:31 AM CET | Energy & Environment

Press release from: PaceButler Corporation

Oklahoma City, OK - April 21, 2008 - PaceButler Corporation, a major player in the cell phone recycling industry based in Edmond, OK announced today the company's plan to integrate it's marketing operations with those of recyclers coming from other industries and with organizations and local communities advocating for waste reduction and environmental protection.

"This is one solid vote for the environment," says Michael Arms, spokesperson for PaceButler Corporation. "We have contributed significantly to the cell phone recycling industry since we entered the business in 2002. We will continue to do so, working with our partner companies and charities."

In the US, an estimated 130 million units of cell phones go out of use annually and most will end up as part of the 70,000 tons of cell phone garbage dumped into our landfills and dumpsites. Only a small percentage, about 8%, are recycled.

"We intend to double our collection rate in 2008, by reaching more communities in our effort to help educate the public in the benefits of cell phone recycling," says Arms, who also heads the IT Division of the Edmond firm.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that if Americans are able to recycle all the 100 million cell phones discarded last year, we would save enough energy to power more than 194,000 US households with electricity for one year.

"It's a drop in the bucket, there's so much opportunity ahead, and we all must do our share," continues Arms. "This year we will work with all groups and individuals who are advocating for increased recycling and environmental protection."

The company through a planned blog segment in its website and through outreach initiatives now embarks on a strategic plan to develop its own network/community primarily to help spread awareness about recycling and current environmental challenges.

"It's predominantly an information-dissemination and community-building campaign and for the most part internet-based, since more and more people use the web to find networks and groups with similar agenda. Working with others in this advocacy will definitely bring about more positive results," Arms concluded. "This is but a natural offshoot of the way we do business - every day at PaceButler is Earth Day."
