Berlin/Leer, October 29, 2025. The Berlin-based e-mobility consultancy M3E has published a free industry guide for the logistics sector in cooperation with the East Frisian freight carrier Nanno Janssen GmbH. The whitepaper "Sustainability as a Competitive Advantage: Electric Mobility for Shippers and Transport Customers" is specifically aimed at strategic decision-makers and operational managers within shipping companies and transport clients across Europe. As a central player in the logistics sector, they are both significantly affected by the ongoing transition to electric mobility and play an active role in shaping it. Therefore, the English edition of this whitepaper offers a detailed perspective on developments across Europe and within individual European countries.
The new whitepaper provides an overview of the current market landscape and serves as a practical guide offering relevant insights and actionable recommendations for manufacturers, wholesalers, and depot operators - both with and without their own fleets - to future-proof their business models. It features in-depth analyses and graphics on current market conditions, the deployment of electric trucks, depot charging infrastructure development, available subsidies, and relevant regulations. The paper places particular emphasis on the CO2 tax and the forthcoming EU Emissions Trading System 2 (EU ETS 2), which is expected to have a significant impact on the industry. The whitepaper concludes with practical recommendations and a best practice case study featuring the freight forwarder Nanno Janssen, recognised as a pioneer in electric trucking for its consistent adoption of e-trucks. The example provides valuable real-world insights into how electrification can be successfully implemented in logistics operations and complements the theoretical analysis with a practical application.
"For shippers, there's no way around electromobility anymore."
Dr. Christian Milan, founder and managing director of M3E, explains:
"For shippers, there's no getting around electromobility anymore. With markets in flux and politics adding pressure, decision-makers now have to combine agility with long-term strategy. As regulation tightens, fuel prices climb, and tolls rise, diesel transport is becoming a costly habit - while electric trucks are turning from a smart choice into an inevitable one."
The transport transition also requires a rethink of established market practices - for instance, price structures in tenders that are typically benchmarked to diesel costs, putting electric transport chains at a disadvantage. Yet, as Nanno Janssen demonstrates, there is another way: the company has adopted fixed-price agreements with its clients and can now cover virtually all use cases in daily operations.
"Electric trucks are no longer confined to short- and medium-haul operations,"
says Nanno Janssen Jr., Chief Strategy Officer at Nanno Janssen.
"We now operate our growing e-truck fleet on long-haul routes as well. With a smart mix of depot charging and public fast-charging stations along carefully planned routes, range is no longer an issue. Charging fits neatly into the legally required rest breaks, so there's virtually no downtime compared to diesel. Our e-trucks have already completed trips not only to the Benelux countries, Denmark, and Sweden, but also to Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, and the UK - all without a hitch. And beyond being more environmentally friendly, these journeys are noticeably less stressful for our drivers, who enjoy the comfort of e-trucks and have no intention of switching back."
