Years later, a journey to Cannon Beach, Oregon, fulfills his long-held desire to see Haystack Rock and taste the ocean's salt, closing a circle of longing and perseverance.

The second volume, The Emancipation of William Jones Jr., centers on a young boy removed from an abusive home and placed with relatives in Rawlings, Washington. The narrative traces William's difficult beginnings, his struggle to trust, and the slow-building confidence that allows him to grow and connect with family and community.
