Sake Week 2025 Unites 100 Sake Varieties and 20 Nations
Sake Week 2025, supported by Go-Sake, concluded with resounding success, transforming Berlin into a vibrant hotspot for Japanese culture, taste, and creativity.Over seven days, the city buzzed with energy as restaurants, bars, and cultural spaces celebrated Japan's national drink in all its forms - from centuries-old traditions to bold, modern innovations. Visitors from 20 different nations explored an impressive lineup of 100 unique sake varieties, enjoyed exclusive food pairings such as dry-aged duck menus and sake cocktails, joined interactive tastings with top sommeliers, and experienced the dazzling "Sake Rockstars & Samurai" exhibition at the Samurai Museum.
Go-Sake and Innovation
As official partner, Go-Sake brought its pioneering vision of contemporary sake culture into the heart of the program. The Berlin-based brand championed independent breweries, hosted tastings, and highlighted new ideas that connect traditional craftsmanship with a modern lifestyle. A major highlight was the European premiere of the new sparkling sake "Go Spark", brewed by the Watanabe Sake Brewey, an exclusive launch that underlined the growing role of innovation within the sake scene.
"Our mission has always been to make sake accessible, exciting, and fun while honoring tradition - and Sake Week 2025 showed just how ready Europe is to embrace it," said Dr. Bastian Schwithal, founder of Go-Sake and Member of the Board of the Sake Embassy.
A Festival of Culture and Exchange
The festival featured many other highlights: the Ueno Gourmet Sake Roadshow Berlin, where visitors sampled rare labels and met sake experts; the interactive online "Sake Talk & Tasting with YamaSake", connecting participants worldwide; and the Sake Embassy tasting with Fred Kranich from Kura Wien, which showcased Austrian sake-brewing craftsmanship. The Samurai Museum Berlin hosted the "Sake. Rockstars. Samurai." exhibition, presenting rare sake editions linked to international icons such as Pharrell Williams, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, and Cate Blanchett, complemented by a Japanese design pop-up from CondeHouse.
Alexander van Hessen, President of Sake Embassy Germany e.V., commented:
"We are very satisfied with the fifth edition of Sake Week! With more than 40 individual events across various venues, many curious visitors once again had the chance to discover the world of sake and taste a wide variety. A new anchor point this year was the Samurai Museum in Berlin-Mitte, where our exhibition Sake. Rockstars. Samurai. was presented for a week. In parallel, CondeHouse hosted a pop-up showroom for the first time, featuring Japanese furniture design and a diverse cultural program."
Alexander Jöchl, Museum Director of the Samurai Museum Berlin, added:
"The fifth edition of Sake Week was once again a highlight in Berlin's cultural calendar. The Samurai Museum, for the first time acting as the central venue, presented seven extraordinary international sake collaborations. We are already looking forward to the new edition in 2026. Kanpai!"
