Jay Coda Calls for Escape and Transformation on New Single "Beam"
Blending the raw intensity of nu-metal and punk with the grit of hip hop, Jay Coda delivers a sound that is as unflinching as it is transformative. Beam channels frustration with the dystopian realities of modern life into a cinematic, urgent plea to be "beamed" out into something freer, brighter, and more compassionate.
"This song is a reflection of everything I've been processing these last few years," says Jay. "It's bold, cinematic, and deeply personal - but it also speaks to the universal desire to rise above the heaviness around us."
Jay's artistry is shaped by a journey as dynamic as her sound. Raised in Troy, New York, with roots in gospel and church performance, she went on to serve as a decorated U.S. Army sergeant before transitioning into cybersecurity, even receiving contract offers from NASA. Ultimately, her calling to music won out, driving her to pursue artistry full-time.
She first gained widespread recognition as a member of BOI Band, an experimental collective known for breaking boundaries in genre and performance. Building on that foundation, Jay has since developed a solo identity that fuses her past experiences into a distinctive voice for this generation.
Her resume includes performances at SXSW, opening slots for Princess (Crime Mobb) and DJ Unk, and the acclaimed projects In Cadence Pt. I & II, which established her as a fearless creative force. Now, with Beam, she steps into her next chapter - one defined by experimentation, resilience, and the radical honesty of her storytelling.
