Harlem's Black Girl Magic Day Expands Into Year-Round Movement Empowering Girls Nationwide
Black Girl Magic Day expands into year-round programs with mentorship, after-school clubs, and a national petition.
Returning on May 23, 2025, the Harlem Pink Carpet event will showcase the brilliance of young Black girls through performances, affirmations, and community leadership. The Black Girl Magic Day Club will provide weekly activities and educational kits for enrolled students, while mentorship programs will connect girls with role models offering guidance and support.
"These programs are more than events-they're lifelines," said Tanika Salmon, founder of Black Girl Magic Day. "When girls see themselves celebrated, supported, and empowered, it changes the trajectory of their futures. We're building a movement that every girl deserves to be part of, but we need the community's support to make it possible."

Black Girl Magic Day (BGMD) is a Harlem-rooted initiative founded by Tanika Salmon to celebrate, uplift, and empower young girls. Through its annual Pink Carpet Signature Event, after-school programming, and mentorship opportunities, BGMD provides free educational activity kits, cultural lessons, and Big Sister Circles that extend beyond the classroom.
BGMD has partnered with Team Unity Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to provide fiscal sponsorship and ensure all donations directly support programming. The organization is also leading a national petition to officially recognize Black Girl Magic Day as a U.S. holiday.
