Another milestone in LAGERBOX's growth strategy: the company has secured a new property in North Rhine-Westphalia. In Recklinghausen, on the Berghäuser Straße 1 site, a new LAGERBOX location will be built over the next two years - with clear plans for gradual development into a modern self-storage center.

With the acquisition of the approximately 8,000 square meter site, LAGERBOX is sending a clear signal: The expansion into economically strong regions outside the major cities is being consistently pursued. Recklinghausen offers ideal conditions for a successful project thanks to its convenient location in the Ruhr region, its proximity to existing LAGERBOX locations and strong regional demand potential.

Two construction phases for sustainable development

The newly acquired site currently has an existing building with a single-storey structure. In the first construction phase, this building will be extensively converted to meet the requirements of LAGERBOX. The aim is to make sensible use of the existing building fabric in order to be able to offer storage capacity at the site as quickly as possible.

The planned start of construction for the conversion is scheduled for the first half of 2026. The focus will be on making adjustments to the typical LAGERBOX standards: optimized room layouts, secure access systems and modern building technology for constant temperature and humidity. This approach makes it possible to provide attractive warehouse solutions at an early stage of the project - a clear advantage over a pure new-build approach.

New building with three floors and drive-in convenience from 2027

Following the conversion phase, a completely new building is planned. This will be characterized by a three-storey design including the first floor. Particularly customer-friendly: in addition to traditional entrances, there will be a drive-in area that allows convenient loading and unloading directly at the vehicle - a service that is particularly popular with our customers.

Furthermore, an additional ramp connection is planned to ensure that larger vehicles can also use the location easily. This modern new building is scheduled for completion in 2027. It will fit seamlessly into the existing architecture of the LAGERBOX Group and make the site fit for the future in the long term.

Around 750 storage spaces - strong capacities for the region

Once fully completed, the site will offer around 4,000 square meters of storage space and will comprise around 750 storage rooms in various sizes. This will position Recklinghausen as a relevant self-storage hub for the eastern Ruhr region. The size of the site makes it possible to respond flexibly to the needs of different target groups - from private individuals with temporary storage requirements to commercial customers with long-term storage solutions.
