Press release from: Forward

/ PR Agency: A. Lavin Communications
NEW YORK, January 31, 2006 – The Forward, American Jewry’s top weekly national newspaper, is promoting Ami Eden, news director, to the newly created position of executive editor.

In addition to continuing to coordinate the Forward’s news coverage, he will work on enhancing other sections of the newspaper and developing new editorial products. Starting this week, Ami will also begin writing a bi-monthly column for the newspaper’s editorial page focusing on Jewish affairs.

Ami, who grew up in Philadelphia, joined the Forward as a reporter in 2000 with a background in covering religion and politics. Previously, he was a reporter and editor at the Jewish Exponent in Philadelphia. Ami's work has also appeared in The New York Times, Ha’aretz, The Philadelphia City Paper, Philadelphia Magazine, The Toledo Blade and Jewish newspapers across the country.

“Ami has contributed to the depth and quality of our reporting which has generated a 40 percent increase in readership over the past five years,” explains J.J. Goldberg, the Forward’s editor-in-chief. “The entire staff joins me in congratulating Ami on his new role.”

Ami graduated from Brown University in 1995, with a B.A. in American History and Judaic Studies.

The Forward is widely regarded as American Jewry’s essential newspaper of record. Published since 1990, the English language weekly grew out of the legendary Yiddish language Jewish Daily Forward, founded in 1897. The Forward is committed to rigorous reporting and balanced, thoughtful commentary on news, politics and culture in the Jewish world. The Forward's editor, veteran journalist and author J.J. Goldberg, and his staff have enhanced the paper's reputation for incisive, hard-hitting reportage with a populist, progressive spirit that has been the paper’s hallmark since its early days. Headquartered in New York, the newspaper is owned by the Forward Association, Inc., a 501(c) (4) corporation. It is published on Fridays and is available on newsstands nationwide, as well as by subscription.
