MEI Sells K4 to Gannett Pacific Publishing
Jenkintown, PA (April 3, 2008) – Managing Editor Inc. (MEI), an Adobe premier development partner and leading provider of software solutions for the publishing industry, today announced that Gannett Pacific Publishing (GPP) has purchased the SoftCare K4™ Publishing System. The Arizona-based group is a division of Gannett Company Inc., the largest U.S. newspaper publisher as measured by total daily circulation. In choosing K4, GPP is setting an example for other publishers by stepping up to new technology, said Steven Haught, vice president of sales for MEI. “Gannett’s decision represents a forward-thinking move by one of the biggest names in publishing,” Haught said. “The company is seizing the opportunity to boost an alternative revenue stream by installing state-of-the-art tools. There is clear recognition that now is the time to take the already strong Gannett brand and build it through ancillary publishing. K4 can make that possible, with opportunities to accomplish even more.”
GPP comprises seven unique print and online products covering several national and international markets. Along with MustDo magazines, GPP manages Hawaii.com, 101Things to Do magazines, 101ThingstoDo.com, MustDoTravel.com, Your Health Monthly, Community magazines and TV y Mas. Gannett Company Inc. publishes 85 daily and nearly 900 non-daily newspapers; the company's well-known publishing portfolio includes USA Today, the most widely distributed paper in the country with a circulation of more than 2 million.
K4, integrated with Adobe® InDesign® and InCopy®, is a professional design and editorial workflow system that manages the work of graphic designers, writers and editors into a streamlined production process. The system features multi-level security controls, open SQL architecture and robust customization options that can scale from individual workgroups to entire publishing enterprises. K4 is a robust solution that allows publishers to manage both print and online content, and it also features an optional module that lets users write, edit and copyfit articles from any computer with a Web browser and an Internet connection.
Some of the largest newspapers around the world are already benefiting from improved collaboration and workflow management with K4; according to Haught, GPP’s is exactly the kind of time- and cost-saving example that all newspaper publishers should follow.
“MEI recognizes that publishers want innovative, robust software at a price that won’t break the bank,” Haught said. “We provide newspapers with solutions that can improve the efficiency of their workflow and strengthen their bottom line.”
MEI will showcase the system, along with its other practical and powerful software solutions, at the NEXPO Capital Conference ’08, April 12-15 in Washington, D.C. Representatives will be available for demos and discussions in Booth 2532. To schedule a demonstration, contact Steven Haught at shaught@maned.com, or visit MEI on the Web at http://www.maned.com
