RAANDESK Gallery of Art Launches in Chelsea

New York, NY-The RAANDESK GALLERY OF ART, a virtual gallery that allows art lovers to browse and buy original sculptures, paintings, and photographs from emerging artists around the country, is officially launching on February 9, 2006. To celebrate, the gallery is hosting a one-night art exhibition from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at 550 West 29th Street in Chelsea that will feature 18 up-and-coming artists also featured on the site. Highlighted artwork includes spookily sublime mini-sculptures by Caitlin Bermingham, detailed mythical illustrations by Ken Madore, visual meditations manifested through wine, tea and blueberry spatterings by Ben Stamper and the hauntingly biographical photographs of Laura Salierno.

Owner and Operator Jessica L. Porter created the gallery with the mission of redefining the gallery experience to make it more inclusive, opening up the world of art buying to a larger audience, and giving a unique opportunity to up-and-coming artists.

"I'm lucky to have found so many fantastic artists and people who want to work with me on something so unconventional" stated Jessica Porter. "It's taken a lot of hard work to get to this point. I'm really excited that Raandesk is officially opening."

Porter developed the concept of opening a virtual gallery when she observed that art buying was restrained to a select group of people, and realized how increasingly difficult it is for customers to take the time to shop for art at traditional galleries, especially if you don't live in a large city. She also became aware of how excluded many potential art buyers felt from the gallery scene because she was constantly being asked to direct her friends and their arts purchases. Many wanted original art, but they either felt intimidated by the gallery scene, or didn't know where to begin shopping or how to choose the work.

Based out of New York City's East Side, RAANDESK differentiates itself from other online galleries by offering a unique combination of on-site art exhibitions and other events with an eclectic mixture of up-and-coming artists and provocative artwork in various mediums. The site isn't limited like brick and mortar galleries to only including works that can be successfully themed into a show. Further, the gallery gives a unique opportunity to artists in less cosmopolitan areas by giving them a chance to reach a wider audience, and art buyers the opportunity to browse and buy original sculptures, paintings, photographs, and drawings whenever and wherever it's most convenient.
