35 years of Berufsförderungswerk Leipzig gGmbH - a success story!

BFW Leipzig offers around 1000 participants per year the opportunity for vocational rehabilitation (© Jenny Stadthaus)
In July 1990, the shareholders' meeting of BFW München gave the order to examine the possibilities of establishing a vocational training center in Saxony. Leipzig emerged as one of the most favorable locations during the review process, as the city was located in the Leipzig-Halle industrial area and also in the catchment area of the federal states of Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. As a result, the shareholders' meeting of BFW München in Kirchseeon passed a resolution on November 8, 1990 to establish a vocational training center for Leipzig as a non-profit limited liability company. The partnership agreement was notarized on November 15, 1990.
In agreement with the Saxony State Insurance Office and the Federal Employment Office, it was then decided that the Leipzig Vocational Training Center would be located on the 18-hectare former barracks site in Leipzig-Möckern on Georg-Schumann-Straße. At the same time, the decision was made to build the largest and most modern social insurance center in Germany.
What does BFW Leipzig offer
To this day, Berufsförderungswerk Leipzig is a guarantor of high-quality vocational rehabilitation for people with physical and mental disabilities. Around 265 employees in Leipzig and at the branch office in Chemnitz currently ensure this. During a retraining program in the industrial-technical and commercial fields, the rehabilitants are provided with accompanying assistance. This includes medical and psychological support, learning support, social support and comprehensive rehabilitation management (personnel counseling). BFW Leipzig also offers the option of boarding school accommodation on its own premises as well as culinary catering and various leisure activities.
Specialization for mentally impaired young people
On September 1, 2016, the Berufliches Trainingszentrum Leipzig (BTZ at BFW in Leipzig) was approved by the Regional Purchasing Center Bavaria/Saxony. This expansion was necessary to accommodate the steady increase in participants with mental illnesses. Since then, the option of 'vocational preparation training' (BvB-Reha) and 'inclusion-supported initial training' (IngE) has been very well received.
Psychosocial training elements aimed at strengthening soft skills are an important component here. In this area, too, an interdisciplinary team consisting of trainers, educational supervisors, psychologists and occupational therapists ensures that participants are integrated into the labor market.
Quality and the future
BFW Leipzig has already enabled over 9,000 people to successfully re-enter working life (with a chamber qualification) and has been a reliable partner for the regional economy for 35 years when it comes to recruiting skilled workers. To this day, BFW Leipzig is a guarantor of high-quality vocational rehabilitation for people with physical and mental disabilities. The services offered by BFW Leipzig range from vocational orientation and work trials to preparatory and training measures, retraining and further training.
BFW Leipzig will continue to change and expand in line with demand in the future, as we know that only a successfully completed qualification is and remains a door opener to the companies in our region.

Berufsförderungswerk Leipzig has been a specialist in the field of participation in working life (vocational rehabilitation) for 35 years. Here, people who have had to leave their usual working life due to illness or accident are trained and supported in line with their needs. With individual testing, qualification and integration measures, new opportunities are offered for a return to working life. As a supra-regional service provider in the areas of advice, diagnostics and assessment, qualification, prevention and rehabilitation, the services are available at the main office in Leipzig and the branch office in Chemnitz. The vocational training centers (BTZ at the BFW) in Leipzig and Chemnitz complement the
offer especially for people with mental disabilities. The wide range of services are not only an important contribution to getting people back into work, but also help to solve the shortage of skilled workers in the economy by providing orientation on the job market. In addition, BFW Leipzig offers various training courses for companies. Here, the wishes of industry and business for a skilled workforce are taken into account. On request, the skilled workers can be trained on a job-related, in-service and individual basis.
