What does Juneteenth, 4th of July and Passover Have in Common in America

New York USA - June 18, 2025 - While many are preparing for 4th of July Celebrations, others still are celebrating Juneteenth. What is Juneteenth? It is the belated celebration of the emancipation proclamation declared January 1, 1863.

Never heard of it? Many have not.

All Americans should know the date January 1, 1863 when people of color were declared free persons in America. African Americans' call the evening before, New Year's Eve (December 31) Watch Night.

They heard the rumor and prayerfully anticipated Abraham Lincoln's declaration of Independence for people of color who had worked as indentured servants in America for centuries. However, many still had not heard about their freedom and continued to work on plantations. Plantation owners were determined to keep their workers ignorant for as long as they could.

It wasn't until June 19, 1865 that thousands of people of color in the United States of America learned they were actually free. That's right. It was two years after the declaration of their freedom took place!

Today, many have forgotten why their parents, mothers, aunties, grandmas and elders tarry at the alter on New Year's Eve. It is a quiet commemoration to give thanks to God for their freedom. Their ancestors prayed at the altar of God in their makeshift cabins that nothing would stop the Hand of God from setting them free. It worked.

Recall the same God told Moses and the twelve tribes of Israel that spring commenced the original New Year as he brought the Israelites out of Egyptian bondage and celebrated it as a permanent holiday called "Passover". After that, many of the 12 tribes of Israel fell into bondage again in Babylon (USA) when they failed to keep the Ten Commandments they previously swore to keep in the New Promised Land. While January 1 and June 19th (a.k.a. Juneteenth) commemorate freedom for people of color in America, many are not aware that July 4th actually commemorates the end of white slavery in America. You probably didn't learn about that in British or American history.

The British empire via King George II sent criminals and other people to the New World (USA) who couldn't pay their bills (debts). British slaves worked to pay off their debts in servitude while building America. White slaves were freed from British Rule and servitude July 4th 1776.

Makes you wonder why Americans really called it a Boston Tea Party. Apparently, there was more "tea" to the story than most people were taught in history class.

Neither servitude or freedom was immediate. It was a gradual process. There was debt.

Extremely high credit card interest rates (20-30%) have become very common at most banks today. This is still another reason for everyone to get proper financial literacy. It's a warning to all.

Whether you celebrate your freedom New Year's Eve (December 31) during "watch night service", January 1, June 19, July 4th or March (Passover a.k.a Pesach), today and every day we honor our God given freedom.
