Reuters chooses renewable energy from Cornish wind farm for South West offices

26 March 2008 - Opus Energy, a leading independent supplier of electricity to UK businesses, is working with global information company Reuters to supply its offices in Devon with 100% renewable energy from a local wind farm.

By teaming up with local wind farm Cornwall Light and Power, the forward-thinking Reuters management team are supporting the local community as well as going green.

Reuters recently renewed their electricity contract with Opus Energy for the fourth year running. Having recently agreed to purchase the entire renewable obligation certificate output from Cornwall Light and Power, Opus Energy was able to offer Reuters a renewable energy source close to home.

Julia Fuller, Corporate Responsibility Manager for Reuters said, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to choose where our electricity is sourced from with Opus Energy. Importantly we also wanted to give back to the community by sourcing our electricity locally.”

All renewable energy supplied to Reuters by Opus Energy is exempt from Climate Change Levy tax, which means that being environmentally friendly is also a cost neutral choice.

Steve James, Director of the corporate account management team at Opus Energy said, “Working closely with Reuters we learned that the company wanted to be socially as well as environmentally responsible. By offering a range of renewable energy sources to Reuters we were able to help them chose a locally sustainable option for powering their company”.

UK businesses can follow the example set by Reuters in Devon by opting to support local renewable generators through Opus Energy.
