Press release from: Ex Libris

Web of Science data will be available to researchers via the Primo Central mega index of scholarly materials

Jerusalem, Israel – August 11, 2010. Ex Libris® Group is pleased to announce that Thomson Reuters is to make its important collections directly accessible to Web of Knowledge SM subscribers via the Primo Central mega-aggregate of scholarly e content. With Primo Central, users simultaneously search locally managed collections and global e-content and receive search results that are blended into a single relevance-ranked list. Web of Science SM, part of the Web of Knowledge platform, is the largest and most comprehensive database of research citations available. Authoritative, multidisciplinary content in Web of Science covers more than 11,000 of the most influential journals worldwide, including Open Access journals and more than 110,000 conference proceedings spanning the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.

Thomson Reuters is the latest of the rapidly expanding group of content providers who have chosen to make their content accessible to library users via Primo Central. Records from Web of Science, together with the citation counts, will appear in search results for institutions subscribing to both Primo Central and Web of Science.

Hosted by Ex Libris in a cloud computing environment, Primo Central covers hundreds of millions of global and regional e-resources, such as journal articles and e-books obtained from primary and secondary publishers and aggregators, as well as items obtained from open-access repositories.

“We are excited to work with Ex Libris to ensure that our valuable Web of Science citation data reaches the international community of researchers using Primo Central,” commented James Pringle, Vice President of Product Development at Thomson Reuters. “This partnership with Primo Central supports our overarching goal of delivering powerful research tools to the academic community.”

“As a result of our partnership with Web of Science—the world’s largest citation database—our users will be able to put scholarly data into context, in particular via the ‘Times Cited’ indicator, which is of great interest to our customer community.” remarked Nancy Dushkin, corporate vice president of discovery and delivery solutions at Ex Libris. “We are proud to include Thomson Reuters in the rapidly growing number of leading content providers who are partnering with Ex Libris to provide integrated access to their content.”
