Microturbine CHP Plant Provides Power to Ski Resort in Belarus

12-28-2016 10:09 AM CET | Energy & Environment

Press release from: BPC Engineering

BPC Engineering commissioned an advanced CHP plant for Silichi Ski Resort located in the Minsk Region, Belarus. The plant generates heat and electricity for a restaurant, hotel complex and other facilities of the resort.
Within the framework of the project BPC Engineering performed equipment supply, installation supervision and commissioning. The new mini CHP plant runs in parallel with the utility grid that covers peak loads. The plant consists of a 65-kW microturbine unit with an integrated 115-kW heat recovery module providing highly efficient energy generation.
Since the ski resort imposes strict ecological requirements, the CHP plant is based on Capstone C65 microturbines that feature minimal impact on environment. Currently, they are among the best in the world in terms of emissions, noise and vibrations. What is more important, Capstone microturbine exhaust does not contain formaldehydes, and CO and NOx concentration does not exceed 9 ppm making installation of additional exhaust treatment equipment unnecessary. Besides that, the mini CHP plant features excellent operational parameters, high reliability, and serviceability. The operation is fully automated and does not require presence of service personnel. Maintenance will be performed by BPC Engineering personnel under the terms of service contract.
As of today, the mini CHP plant runs in automatic mode covering about 40%-60% of the resort needs in electricity. It is estimated that the implementation of the microturbine plant will help the resort save about $30000 annually.

BPC Engineering is an integrated engineering company specializing in the construction and operation of distributed energy systems. As an EPC company, BPC Engineeing design, install and operate Capstone microturbine-based distributed power plants with power output range from 10-15 kilowatts to 20 megawatts. As an OEM at own factory in Tutaev, Yaroslavl region, company manufactures microturbine units and packaged power plants based on Capstone microturbines and Dresser-Rand gas turbines under own brand ENEX (Energy Expert) as well as under brand COMPEX (Compressor Expert) produces screw, reciprocating, centrifugal gas compressors; equipment for associated and flare gas treatment; wellhead gas compression systems for legacy wells operation extension; single-stage, low-temperature and scalable desulfurization systems; zero-flaring systems, gas reinjection, LPG and aromatics extraction; waste-to-energy systems based on proprietary fast pyrolysis technology. In its solutions company relies on state-of-the-art concepts and the most efficient technologies. Particularly, in compliance with the concept of distributed generation heat and electricity producers (mini CHP plants) are situated as close as possible to the consumer and generate energy precisely according to demand. This method minimizes transportation losses and allows mini CHP plants to reach a combustion efficiency of up to 90% and higher through combined power, heat and cooling production (cogeneration and trigeneration). The unique features of microturbines allow for the installation of CHP plants in densely populated areas and resorts and in remote areas such as settlements in the Far North or oil fields and pipelines without any harm to the environment.
For 14 years of operation BPC Engineering has implemented more than 250 projects for onsite gas turbines installation with total power output of 200 MW. So far, we have installed more than 1300 gas turbines in Russia and CIS countries. BPC's customer portfolio includes both major Russian corporations, such as Gazprom, Russneft, Tatneft, Lukoil, Zarubezhneft, RITEK, Itera, Rostelecom, Sakhaenergo, and dozens of medium to small consumers: municipalities, shopping and entertainment centers, offices, hotels, stadiums, water parks, schools, hospitals, and various industrial enterprises.
Innovative technologies, adherence to the financial terms of projects and their prompt completion have earned company reputation of a reliable partner and allowed BPC Engineering to take leading positions in distributed power market. Practical success of the Company contributed a lot to the promotion of the concept of distributed power generation in Russia and helped overcome traditional disbelief in viability of onsite power generation as an independent branch of industry.
