Menopause's Impact on Heart Health & Sleep: New Research
Redwood City, California - New research from Welltory (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ywnvqw6PsjwIPNcoAWkP19ZxiuaBppxc/view?usp=sharing), the leading wellness tracking app, reveals menopause lowers heart rate variability (https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/01.CIR.93.5.1043) by 28%, disrupts sleep, and increases physiological strain. Based on biometric data from 200,000 women and a survey of 1,500, the study also finds that nearly half never consult a doctor about these health impacts.Key Findings:
- HRV decreases by 28% from before menopause to early postmenopause, indicating increased stress and strain on the heart. Early perimenopause (40-44): 12% drop. Late perimenopause (45-49): 7% drop. Early postmenopause (50+): Another 12% drop.
- Morning stress rises, indicating higher physiological strain upon waking.
- Sleep quality declines, with postmenopausal women sleeping significantly less and experiencing worsened recovery.
- 48% of women never seek medical advice about menopause, despite its impact on health.
- 30% experience moderate to high anxiety about menopause, yet only 20% feel confident in managing symptoms.
"These findings confirm what many women already feel but rarely see reflected in mainstream health discussions - menopause isn't just about hot flashes and mood swings," said Jane Smorodnikova, Welltory's CEO and founder. "It's a full-body transformation that affects cardiovascular health, recovery, and energy levels. Understanding these changes with real-time data gives women the power to manage their health proactively."
The study also reveals that menopause education is severely lacking, leaving many women unprepared. 51% of women had only vague knowledge of menopause before experiencing it, and 30% knew nothing at all. As a result, many struggle with symptoms they don't fully understand.
Tracking HRV, sleep, and recovery through digital health tools like Welltory can provide real-time insights into menopause's impact. 38% of women using Welltory report a better understanding of their health and symptom management, while 22% see significant benefits. These findings underscore how digital health tools can empower women through menopause.
