Bells of Amsterdam: A Photographer's Unique Tribute to the City's Iconic Bicycle Culture
Amsterdam, 14.03.25 - International photographer Greggory Zzyzx, who has traveled to over 100 countries capturing the unique essence of cities, has spent years documenting one of Amsterdam's most overlooked yet iconic details-bicycle bells. His stunning collection, Bells of Amsterdam, features over 100 photographs of bells found throughout the city, each telling a story of history, character, and urban life.
What started as a playful attempt to protect a loved one from Amsterdam's notorious bike traffic turned into an artistic obsession. In Bells of Amsterdam, Zzyzx shares a short story about how a simple bicycle bell became a symbol of his deep connection with the city. His journey began with a birthday trip for his then-girlfriend, where he trained her to listen for bike bells to avoid accidents-only to find himself forever enchanted by them.
"Amsterdam is more than just canals and bicycles. It's the details-the small, everyday things that make a city unique. This collection is my love letter to Amsterdam," says Zzyzx.
Despite years of capturing images around the world, he never sought to commercialize his work-until now. His dream is to bring Bells of Amsterdam to an art gallery or exhibition, sharing this personal yet universally relatable collection with the world.
Zzyzx is now seeking media attention, art spaces, and supporters to help bring this exhibition to life. He hopes that through this project, he can return to Amsterdam, the city that has inspired him for years.
