Courageous Course Launches Mental Wellness Program to Support Incoming College Students
The launch comes at a critical time, as mental health challenges continue to impact college students nationwide. According to the American College Health Association's (ACHA) Spring 2024 survey, 76.4% of college students reported experiencing moderate to serious psychological distress. Additionally, a study by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) found that 64% of students who dropped out of college cited poor mental health as a significant factor, yet nearly half had never sought support before enrolling.
"Courageous Course was created to address a growing need for proactive mental wellness support," said Ely. "This program is designed to empower students with the tools they need to manage stress, build resilience, and successfully adapt to the college experience."
Unlike traditional mental health resources that primarily focus on crisis intervention, the Courageous Course program takes a preventive approach. By equipping students with coping strategies before they begin their college journey, it aims to reduce stress and enhance overall well-being.
