Dicumyl peroxide is an organic peroxide. The peroxide bond with its two oxygen atoms is easily broken up. For this reason, organic peroxides are often used as free radical sources in polymerizations and similar reactions. Dicumyl peroxide is among the less reactive of the organic peroxides. Dicumyl peroxide is a strong free radical source; used as a polymerization initiator, catalyst and vulcanizing agent. DCP decomposes rapidly, causing fire and explosion hazard, on heating and under influence of light. It reacts violently with incompatible substances or ignition sources (acids, bases, reducing agents, and heavy metals).

Dicumyl Peroxide is a dialkyl group cross linker. The DCP is low toxic, tasteless, can be used as cross linker for crude rubber and synthetic rubber; as initiator for polymerization; also as cross linker for rubber plastic such as Polyethylene Resin, EVA, Silicon Rubber, Polyurethane Rubber etc. The cross linked PE can be applied in cable insulation material, featuring not only excellent insulation and processing performance, but also evidently raise the capability for temperature resistance, oil resistance, wear resistance and mechanical strength of the polymers.
