AMEC ROLLS OUT NEW ITIL BEST PRACTICE FRAMEWORK WITH PLAN-NET
London, 26 October 2005 - AMEC, the international project management and services company, has recently completed a major IT refresh programme, Fast Forward, for its UK-wide business operations. The programme included a new Wide Area Network, Local Area Network and infrastructure upgrades, Exchange 2003 migration, outsourced Data Centres and new desktop image to standardise and business-align the company’s IT environment. An important element of the Programme was the introduction of a clearly defined and ITIL-based service framework with consolidated processes to better manage the overall environment and provide a more customer orientated service offering.
As part of a contract with AMEC totalling over £100 000, Plan-Net performed a SMart Review. This involved an assessment of existing ‘Customer Services’ working practices, procedures and processes. Various ITIL disciplines were analysed, including Service Desk & Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, Asset & Configuration Management and Service Level Management.
Based on this evaluation, Plan-Net established a Service Improvement Plan to baseline policies, processes and procedures to support the new IS Infrastructure, aligned to ITIL best practice.
Steve Trench, Fast Forward Programme Manager at AMEC, comments, “We chose Plan-Net as they were able to quickly understand AMEC’s business needs.
Trench continues, “Plan-Net assisted us with both the shaping of the project and also the implementation phase. By drawing on experience of the entire Plan-Net organisation we quickly implemented the requisite improvements. We now have a set of robust practices, as well as meaningful service targets. Recent feedback from our Businesses confirms that we are now providing an improved level of service “
AMEC is also working with Plan-Net to shape and deliver a full ITIL Education Programme for IS staff, including an introductory ITIL awareness course and a series of detailed Foundation Level courses.
Commenting on the working relationship with Plan-Net, Trench concludes, “We have an excellent relationship with Plan-Net and we have been able to benefit significantly from their knowledge and expertise.”
AMEC is an international project management and services company, employing around 44,000 people in some 40 countries around the world. It has office networks in three main territories: Continental Europe, the UK and the Americas, and is headquartered in London with regional head offices in Paris and Washington.
