STORDIS releases RAID system certified for military and telco industry

02-28-2008 11:45 AM CET | IT, New Media & Software

Press release from: STORDIS GmbH

STORDIS releases with the SNAPSTOR 5000 a RAID system that has passed the rigorous "NEBS-Level 3" certification process of the telecommunication industry, as well as the "MIL-STD-810F" certification test of the US Department of Defense.
Especially the MIL-STD-810F certification is highly valued by commercial and research customers, because it documents the resilience of the system against environmental stress.
"A system that performed well in an unpressurized aircraft flying at 15.000 feet, ran in an environment of 50° C and survived blow-tests with sand and dust is not only suitable for military air, sea and land use, but proves perfectly suited for thin air, mountainous regions in deserts and other regions with extraordinary climate conditions." says Michael Conz, Managing Director of STORDIS GmbH
Besides this extreme hardening of the system, the SNAPSTOR 5000 has impressive performance figures. It delivers up to 1.600 MB/s and 150.000 IOPS. This performance is suitable for the highest demanding applications such as HD film post-processing in regards to MB/s or database applications that need high IOPS per second.
The SNAPSTOR 5000 is a 2 U RAID system, which can be equipped with 12 SAS or SATA-II harddisks. Up to eight SNAPSTOR 1000 JBODs can be attached to it, delivering a maximum of 108 harddisks with a maximum capacity of 108 Terabyte using one Terabyte disks. The harddisks can be intermixed within one enclosure, so a customer can use six 146 GB SAS harddisks for his Oracle database and use the remaining six slots with 1 TB SATA drives for backup-to-disk.
By using redundant controllers and power supplies and providing RAID levels
1, 3, 5, 6, 10, and 50 the SNAPSTOR 5000 provides a high level of security against hardware component failure.
Up to eight hosts can be attached directly to a SNAPSTOR 5000 RAID System using 4 Gb FC connections. It provides features as volume copy, up to 256 snapshots, support for Microsoft VSS/VDS and can create up to 1024 volumes.
The SNAPSTOR 5000 is immediately available from qualified SNAPSTOR resellers.
