MyriaMeat reaches milestone: Cultivated pork meat with natural contractility from pluripotent stem cells

The Munich-based start-up MyriaMeat has achieved a groundbreaking breakthrough in the cultivated meat industry: For the first time in the world, real pig muscle has been developed from pluripotent stem cells (iPS) that exhibits natural, untriggered contractions - a lively twitch that mirrors the functional ability of real muscle tissue.

This success proves that real pork can be produced entirely outside of a living animal. This brings cultivated meat even closer to conventional meat obtained through slaughter. MyriaMeat aims to produce an exact 1:1 copy of pork - not a substitute product, but real meat.

This approach is also intended to increase acceptance among meat consumers who have not yet considered plant based alternatives. Overall, cultivated meat is suitable for solving many of the problems associated with factory farming.

A milestone for sustainable nutrition and ethics

Since its foundation in 2022, MyriaMeat has been committed to the vision of producing real animal muscle tissue from stem cells in order to create a sustainable alternative to conventional meat production. As a spin-off of a research team from the University of Göttingen, the company is led by Florian Hüttner (CEO) and Dr. Malte Tiburcy (CSO).

"For the first time, an animal muscle - in this case from a pig - from pluripotent stem cells not only shows the properties of real tissue, but also spontaneous contractions of a muscle. This is scientific proof that we can produce real pork outside of a living organism," explains Dr. Malte Tiburcy.

Revolution in cultivated meat technology

With its groundbreaking success, MyriaMeat is taking the cultivated meat industry to a new level. While many companies use cell cultures to produce meat-like products, MyriaMeat is the first in the world to use pluripotent stem cells to create real muscle that is both functionally and structurally comparable to natural pig tissue.

Invitation to partnership

MyriaMeat is actively targeting investors and companies in the meat industry who are interested in further developing this pioneering technology in Germany and worldwide. Interested partners are cordially invited to contact the company directly to work together on a more sustainable future for meat production.

"Our goal is to become a strategic partner to the meat industry and to create a more environmentally friendly, cruelty-free and resource-saving alternative for real pork and other types of meat," explains Managing Director Florian Hüttner. "This success shows that real meat can also be produced without live animals."

"We therefore don't see ourselves as a competitor to the meat industry, but as its partner. The meat industry has established sales structures, extensive expertise and access to political networks. Our vision is therefore to work with the meat industry to develop products that use existing production methods and facilitate the introduction of cultured meat. There could also be ways for agriculture to benefit from the new production methods for meat in the future," Hüttner is certain.

Cultured meat offers safety

Hüttner also emphasizes the importance of such alternative production methods in light of current challenges such as the threat of foot and mouth disease (FMD). "Cultured meat not only offers a solution to ethical and ecological problems through its production in the laboratory, but also reduces the attack surface for diseases to which live animals are exposed - without genetic manipulation."

Founded in Munich and Göttingen in 2022, the biotech start-up MyriaMeat is a pioneer in the production of 100% real cultivated meat based on pluripotent stem cells. Based on decades of medical research at the University of Göttingen, MyriaMeat offers sustainable and ethically responsible alternatives to conventional meat. The aim is to build a platform that enables the production of high-quality and pure meat, as well as a variety of other meat-based products, and makes the company a relevant partner for the development of innovative foods with alternative proteins.

The Cultivated Meat developed by MyriaMeat not only offers ecological advantages, but also enables a significant improvement in animal welfare, as animals no longer have to be slaughtered for the production of meat. With its groundbreaking research, MyriaMeat is setting new standards for the future of nutrition.
