Local Pizza Joint Named Best College Town Pizza Place in America

TEMPE, Ariz. – November 14, 2016 – Locally owned and operated fast casual pizza restaurant, Slices Pizza Joint grabs the number one spot by national TV show, THE LIST, as it ranks its picks for the best college pizza joint in the nation.

Second place went to Shakespeare’s Pizza in Columbia Missouri and Satchel’s Pizza in Gainesville, Florida rounded out the list at number three.
Slices Pizza Joint, with locations at Tempe Marketplace and downtown Tempe, has been the go-to pizza place for Arizona State University Student for almost 20 years. Opening its doors downtown in 1998, east coast transport and founder Rodd Kestenbaum wanted to bring his favorite New York style pizza to the desert and create a place like the one he frequented during his college years in Boston.

“We’ve always been popular with the ASU students, but this is a big honor for us,” said Kestenbaum. “Being a part of the Tempe landscape for 18 years, we now have ASU alums bringing their kids in for a Slice when visiting campus or coming by before or after the movies with their families—sharing a taste of nostalgia.”

THE LIST recognized the New York style pizza joint for its quick-service and unique options, including the potato bacon and pesto chicken slices. Slice Pizza Joint serves as many as 15 different pizza options by the slice daily, with toppings ranging from the traditional pepperoni and sausage to pesto and chicken, chicken parmesan and pepperoni and jalapeño, to name just a few of its more than 30 combinations.

Patrons can mix and match buying two slices and a drink for $6.99, a single slice starting at $3.00 or a whole pie. Slices also serves its house made Calzones, hot wings, side salads and desserts. In addition to the unique variety of toppings offered, this casual pizza joint has become known for its extra-large sized pizza slices and pies.

Rooted in Tempe, the restaurant also has a location in North Phoenix, Utah, and its newest location at Grand Canyon University, which opened in 2015. The restaurant continues to look for opportunities to expand and offer opportunities for franchisees.
