Bennett Neuhauser Releases Indie Country Album Recorded in Part at Legendary Sun Studio

American indie singer-songwriter Bennett Neuhauser has released a new, 15-song country rock album titled "Bennett Neuhauser at Sun Studio & Beyond," featuring seven songs recorded at the "Birthplace of Rock'n'Roll," legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. The other eight songs were recorded at Bennett's home studio near Chicago, Illinois, rounding out an inspired collection of country, rockabilly and novelty tunes rich with the throwback kind of humor, sincerity and sentimentality so absent from the genre today. It includes story songs about breakups, longing, temptation, salvation and empathy for our troops as well ditties about a silly space odyssey, the desire to be like Elvis (in an Elvis movie), and the toughest little old tractor you ever heard tell of.

At the heart of this project is Neuhauser's serendipitous experience at Sun Studio, an opportunity he achieved after nine years' worth of dogged persistence in trying to secure a recording slot at the venerated and in-demand room, where no less than Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Howlin' Wolf, among many others, made the first recordings of their illustrious careers.

"When I finally got my chance to record at Sun Studio, it was life-changing. Truly a dream come true," notes Neuhauser. "On the first of two nights there, three top Memphis-area musicians and I were able to capture solid takes of four of my original songs, all in one five-hour session. The studio manager himself said it was a pretty much a minor miracle. Not bad for four people who had never met or played together before that night!"

Neuhauser got what he was shooting for with those tracks, capturing the visceral, all-in-the-same-room sound and energy that only comes with live recording as compared to modern multi-tracking. "I wanted that raw sound, like Elvis, Scotty Moore and Bill Black once played it for an appraising Sam Phillips. And there's only one way to get it." Hence those full-band cuts are mostly first takes (none more than a second take), with minimal, if any, overdubs.

Bennett Neuhauser at Sun Studio & Beyond is Neuhauser's fifth indie album release, including three albums, In Word and In Deed, Troubadour and Plenty of Gold, released under his former stage name, Ben Sage, and The Best of Bennett Neuhauser, all available online on various popular distribution platforms or via his personal website, BennettNeuhauser.com.
The new album is also available in hard-copy CD format at Neuhauser's live shows and on his website, and ebay.

Bennett Neuhauser is a BMI songwriter with more than 120 original songs and hundreds of live performances to his credit, including appearances at the Elbo Room, the Double Door, Uncommon Ground and other Chicago-area venues. He also lived and performed for many years in Madison, Wisconsin, and Los Angeles, California.
