Autonomous Shipping South Korea Project
Naval Defence Consulting will work with South Korean maritime bodies to pilot this next-step nautical strategy where a lead vessel guides several unmanned vessels in a convoy, using only secure Vessel communication.
Phase 1 will explore Short Manned Vessels (SMV’S) that operate with 12hrs of manned watch and 12hrs with supervision/control managed by a Remote Shore Control Centre (RSCC), and under certain conditions have some delegated responsibilities/possibilities to take specific actions.
Phase 2 will pilot Fully Autonomous Vessels that handles the planning and execution of the complete voyage from port to port. Completely monitored from a RSCC with the ability to operate by autopilot and take remote control only if deemed necessary.
Naval Defence Consulting are addressing the need for Improved sensor system for Fully Autonomous Vessels with world leading South Korean technology manufacturers and currently testing technologies and software to identify capability gaps (which today is still not as good as an officer on watch)
