GALERIE SUPPER at Art San Diego 2016
Andreas Wachter: Ebbe, 2016, mixed media on hird fibre, 40 x 55 cm
The compiled positions oscillate between painting and drawing, between surface and line. What brings them together is their reflection on the human body and to the space in which it is moving. While the works of Monika Thiele capture portraits in motion through lines drawn by threads – almost rather as a moment than as a portrayal – Rayk Goetze breaks the imagination of man as a unity through skilful fragmentation and a masterly understanding of colour and surface. Andreas Lau explores media spaces and the shift in the perception of men. This shift, within the alienation of images through mass reproduction plays a significant role, is the translated by Lau into a disturbing and impressive imagery. Conversely, the works of Andreas Wachter tempt us into projecting the “real” world into them. However, in these pieces, a place is becoming a scene, a building a protagonist. Wachter creates oil paintings, which suggest a mysterious relation between figure and architecture, between body and space.
